Was thinking about this (thanks to Deb :)). How do I go about it? Do I need to be registered or anything? Have checks?

Will have lots of room when the shed is all done, plus will have a spare room in the house :)

A good idea?

I was also thinking about this as well but could i part with them again thats the question 98)

Yeah I've thought about that, and for sure I could :) I like to help people and especially piggies. I will have the satisfaction of knowing that people have trusted me and have been able to enjoy their holidays :)

Just piggies I think. I'm not too keen on rats, but don't really know much on other small animals :)

Hi Kelly, i work for a pet sitters (have just been told i can be deputy manager :D ), Paradise Pet Sitters.

You need to be insured, and police checked before you start anything.

The pet sitters that came to my house to look after the cats, and furries were police checked.. Due to them having access to my house, alarm etc.

If you are looking after peoples piggies in your own home them not sure if you would need that, but maybe need some kind of insurance ? and maybe permission from the council. It would be worth looking into fully.

Whenever I have boarded my animals I have always had to sign a paper stating I will reimburse the sitter/boarder any vet costs if anyone taken ill. Very important to do that, as you just never know. Also, if I DONT collect the animals after a certain period of time then they become the 'property' for want of a word of the boarder for them to rehome on.

Always have boarding fees up front as well, as again people may not collect them back if they have skint themselves out while on holiday. :o

Have looked into this too, but didn't go ahead as could only offer out door accomodation initially, and didn't think it would be suitable for many people.
Even contacted the council, didn't need any permission, although some councils differ. You need insurance too, think it was about £60 per year approx.
Maybe I will do it eventually if I can accomodate indoor hutches and outdoor hutches.

What sort of Police check :) I have had one because I work in a school, is it the same? Would you need the police check if small animals (guinea pigs) came to stay at your home or is that just for people that do pet sitting in other people's homes? What are the laws on boarding small animals (guineas and rabbits) at your home?
Congrats on becoming deputy :)

Anyone can board small animals in their home and do not need a police check to do it :police:. My boss does holiday boarding and I often help her out with the overflow, its very popular and especially busy in the summer and at christmas. Its important to have the owners sign paperwork with details of their animals and agreeing to pay for vets bills should their animal become sick when with you.

as far as i know you do not need a police check if you want to board small animals on your property, I think it's needed if your a sitter.

What a great idea Kelly O0
You'll have to get the people sign a form where it says 'and i promise to give you your piggie back to you again after i've baby sat them' ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think its a brilliant idea kelly. I'd trust you 200% with my boys and i know i could go on holiday without worrying.....just keep us informed as I'm only round the corner from you O0

i would trust you and its a brilliant idea!

I meant that you need a police check for Pet sitting, as you go to peoples houses to do it.

Oh wow thanx! I didn't mean sitting as in going to others housing.

I'll have to find out if they wheelchair access in order for them to let me sit! LOL

so contradicting advice aside.......... do I need to register?

sounds like a good idea I'm not sure what you have to do though, i know you need for your place to be checked out ?

I dont think so... maybe you should ring someone to confirm it though... but it doesnt sound like yoou need permission :)

B-T-W I would trust you with my pigs too ;D

No it doesn't sound like it :D Just for cats and dogs!

aww thanks! O0

No probs, doesn't sound you need a licence though for what you want to do - but like you I would contact them just in case - you can always print it off if they reply saying that you don't and you've got it as proof then. O0

Good luck O0

I just looked on our councils website, I searched 'Animal boarding establishments' and found an application form thingy and it costed £200 to do it ::) Didn't say anything about smaller animals though.

i was told by my council that i didn't need a licence, only for cats and dogs.so should be the same for you
