Peter Gurney - Tabritis tablets for oldies

Yes there's a girl who lives in the UK who's had piggies for years and years and i know she's used them, she has spoken of this before.
(she's not on this forum and never has been i met her thru one from the US)

i'm going to give them a go with freddie, i think they would be beneficial to him now hes pushing 6

yes, I think I might get some and give them a go too for my oldies.

I bought some of those for Rodney when I noticed his back legs were getting a bit stiff, but he wasnt on them for long before he died so I cant tell you if they were any good :(

Oh poor Rodney. :( (((((hugs)))))
I've booked mine all in for a check-up with the exotic vet I've found ( Yay! ) so will try and remember to ask about them about the tablets on Thursday.

I do wonder with Peter Gurney's recommendations how many of the tablets have changed formulation since he recommended them. I'd check the ingredients well before using.

You can get them on line from a herbalist, not sure the vet will know much about them but its worth a try.

Rodney didnt die from the tablets, he developed a bladder stone.

Everything i have ever used that peter gurney recommends has worked for my pigs 100%. Especially the paralysis cure when i rescued a piggie from p@h. I would give them a try :)

Update!

Thought you might appreciate an update on the Tabritis. We've been giving them to our oldies for nearly 4 weeks now. We started with Peter Gurney's recommended dose of half a tablet each but I noticed they were weeing a lot more ( and it was a bit brown ) and their poos were a bit soft - this was probably down to some of the ingredients being diuretics and senna leaf being included too. So we decided after a week that whilst it was too soon to stop ( as we'd never know if they worked and the vet had given us the go ahead ) a quarter dose may be better. This seems to have done the trick and the side effects have vanished, they each get a quarter of a tablet crushed and mixed with 1ml of water and they actually seem to enjoy it but here's the big news: the bunny hopping seems to have vanished! :(|)
Something else I noticed that may have nothing to do with the tablets - Moonpig had a little bald spot - I thought it was getting bigger as it became more prominent but on closer inspection I realised that her hair was in fact growing back, it was growing back darker though ( she's ginger, the new hair is coffee coloured) , which was why it looked like an expanding bald patch. Now obviously this is probably completely coincedental and has nothing to do with the tablets but hubby says he's going to remember all of this for future reference anyway! Lol! :(|) :(|) :(|)

I have been giving it to Amelia Jane as she has arthritis and it has really helped. I started giving it to Peronel as they are the same age but she has been bleeding. I do not know if it is connected. I wonder if I should stop it for Peronel or give her a quarter like you are doing with yours.

Hmmm. I don't know tbh. I've moved up from a quarter to a half gradually, the main reason being that Moonpig usually has it with a bit of critical care and doesn't always finish it all so I wanted to make sure she at least got a full quarter of a tablet even if she only ate half of the mix. My vet's happy for her to have it but if your concerned about Peronel then surely your vet would want to at least test a wee sample? Hope you get to the bottom of this. x

Thank you for replying. I think the vet thinks it is best to wait to Monday and this is not a real emergency.

If you have to wait for Monday are you going to stop giving it to her meanwhile and see if there's any change in her wee? Hope she's going to be okay. (((((hugs)))))

Yes I have stopped it. I am not happy with the vet saying I cannot bring her in though. Think I may call again for a second opinion.

Good, if you're worried they should take you more seriously not just telll you to wait. x

She is not bleeding today but I will call tomorrow anyway to be sure. Thanks for caring.

Aww, you're welcome hun. I know how difficult all this is especially after what you went through with the lovely Marble. Piggies showing signs of illness especially after you've lost a dear one can be very stressful and worrying. (((((hugs)))))

You are so right. Now I worry and panic for the least thing. We both know what that is like. :(
