we normally get the bales of hay from kennalgate in wollaton but its all chopped up and gives them nothing to bury themselves in,our huge bales of shavings are from there too but theyve cut the size down and are charging the same price

if you want a guy to deliver food and hay ive got the number, hes not bad priced neither and does dog food etc too
My friend works in the wollaton branch ;) I get the shavings from there too have you noticed the size of the shaving flakes too they have got smaller and are not as absorbant. Reason for this is they now use shavings in power stations as they are running out of coal so they made the bags smaller then put the price up too. I used to pay £5 a bale at kennelgate and they were a lot wider and taller than they are now. I get the hay from a petshop not far from me near basford crossings it £2 for a large bag of wonderful smelling baled hay, had a bad bag once in kennelgate that put me off a bit. Could you pm me the guys number do they sell burgess excell dont want huge sacks though 4kg bags fit in the plastic bucket that I store dried food in. ;)

yeah I know what you mean about the shavings, the bale used to be huge but it seems like its been halved in size but they still charge £7.50 for a smaller size ( which has annoyed me)
so anyone with horses etc now has to buy more bales and spend more
kennelgate reckon they only have a couple of the huge ones in now and again,so I'm gonna ask them to save me one next time it comes in
its a pity that i dont live nearer to basford crossings pet shop,id love to get a bale of their hay,I'm not really impressed with the kennelgate one as its all chopped up and sposed to be dust free, when we pull it out of the bag theres dust everywhere,so thats a load of crap
anywayyyyyy ill pm you the guys number
i know that he does rabbit food ( which is the one I have ) but its got extra stuff in for piggies ( like vitamin c etc )

It sounds like i've been lucky then! My boys were from p@h, both were sexed correctally and the lady let me hold them. I checked the sex for myself before leaving with them. They told me what food they were on, and gave me general care tips. (Not that i'm sticking up for them or anything.) I think they were 2 for £35.
Sounds like some need to teach their staff properly.

The P@H in Hamilton is quite good although the other day I went down and there was at least 15 piggies and 5 rabbits in 6x3ft pen.

hummm, I wonder how much the franchises are? maybe us lot should start one up & put all the others to shame!

i bought three piggies from pets at home
we hav 2 in cov, but canely is a better shop, they do healthchecks, and no the sex!

smidge, was a female who turned out to be a mite infested male ( :) but we love him! )
fudge, is a timid piggy who is gawgus! (canely one tho)
patch is abit smaller but very cute, a lil dirty wen we got her ( :)but i love her 2) from canley

Wilko's are well priced,we've had stuff from there and their hay lasts ages

I know its a daft question but why do you not get your fresh hay from farms etc, mine is delivered by Mick a farmer who owns loads of animals and we swap storys he tells me some great storys about his sheep pigs and fowl he took our chickens when we had them last year and spoils them rotten, he tells me every time what they are up to , he says I should be writing storys about my pigs lol

I've discovered hay bales too, a small one cost me £3.20 and has lasted forever and it fits on top of a 4 ft hutch to store.

I used to buy hay from pet shops but swapped to farm hay a few months ago- it is brilliant quality and so cheap....£3.50 a bale. 2 bales have lasted me for about 5-6 months!

i find the stuff you buy in pet shops is often dry, dusty and brown looking and not suitable for bedding as well as food as it is often cut very short. Its much more expensive too!

I just keeping sneaking into one of my father in laws farm buildings and taking the hay a bin bag at a time, hope we don't run out before this year's baling!

My local P@H quite impressed me the other day. The piggies are still kept in with the rabbits but when i mentioned it to the guy he just treated me like an idiot and said he'd been in the animal industry 25 years and knew what he was doing! Anyway i'm getting off the point. I was impressed by the new enclosure for the chins. It's a huge glass display very similar to the one they house the birds in but it's decked out with ramps, boxes, toys, shelves, dust baths, etc A vast improvement in having them on display in a critter 2 or 3!

Now if only they'd make an effort with the others!

i cant see my dad going up the farm for hay for the crews ( that would be " oh you want me to be a taxi service again" )
I could do with a farmer dropping me one off,lol
my grandad did know a farmer though ,I could always ring that farm up and hint that he knew him etc etc

I think its inbred in them to treat us like idiots >:(

i get my hair fro ma farm as my dad a s a milkam and he the big firges where there put the milk in to my dad like has one of them at this farm and there people there let us have the hay for free like i mean a big bale free

The pet shop I mentioned for Hay is very good. Hay is not chopped though,I chop it with hand hedge cutter. Its very fresh and smells lovely. I have been buying it from there since the guy next door told me about it. He has piggies too and between him me and a friend of mine we have never had a bad bag. Lady who owns it is ok to talk to but she keeps animals in very small cages :(but they are cleaned out everyday and given fresh veggies lots of shops dont.

i think pets at home is great! there is that or hobdays, hobdays is very stringy and sticks together and is a lighter brown, its hard 2 put in the cage and for them to burrow in, the pets at home one is easy.

be careful with the woodshavings people! only recently, i found lil black bugs burrowed inside mine, which i also found alive in the hutch and on my biscuit. and on my last clean out, i found a used paper coffee cup smuggled inisde, i no it might b over reacting but u never no
