Pets at Home - Do we need to campaign and become more active rather than grumbling?!

OMG - all this has totally put me off buying anything from P@H or any shop that sells animals. I do most of my shopping anyway in a wee local pet supply shop (that doesn't have animals). I feel so bad that I bought my 2 wee girls from P@H - I've funded this barbaricness.

I think lots of us (including me!) have bought pigs from pets at home or buy supplies from there. I really try not to buy anything from them if at all possible, I get all my stuff from a feed supplies place now apart from odd bits and pieces.

If people knew where they came from, they might think twice - but the stores are clean and bright and the animals look well cared for, mostly, so people don't know where they were bred and raised.

I'm the same - I mean, I knew they must have come from breeders but did not know the full extent of it until this thread. This has been a really interesting and information thread.

This information really should be passed out to the public. If I've been on this forum for 1 year and a half and I'm still learning about all this - what about everyone who doesn't come on here. Most people I speak to, don't even know that guinea pig rescues exist.

Is it worth contacting this moron and askin what happens to the animals to big for sale? See if its poss to get them in rescues rather than frozen foods?

Probably not, they won't care, chances are they're making a mint and couldn't give a hoot about your opinion. Who we need to get through to are the people buying these animals and, albeit indirectly, giving companies like that custom.

I have two pet shop pigs, my first two were/are rescues and I am after a young boar who WILL be a rescue pig

I have seen some poor quality pet shops were the animals were plain unhappy and to be honest who could see a cutie like that and not want to take it home and love it.
The problem is people buy animals for children and they get bored of them. Would people rescue an animal if buying on a whim? Most likely not. I had to wait over a year to be able to get a guinea pig, and have been through some tough heart breaking times in 11 months as a guinea piggys mummy human and I would not change them for the world.
