Hello all,

We purchased a red extendable tunnel from Pets at Home a week ago (a bit like this one here), which our boys absolutely love. However, when you extend it and leave it in their cage, they sit inside it and when they poop it gets caught between the grooves.

I wash it out everyday, but you can see there from the outside we're starting to develop a build up of poop (ewww) in some of the grooves, and I'm struggling to remove it all.

Anyone got any tips on how to clean it? I'm tempted to replace it a bottomless tunnel, so at least their poop (apologies for how many times I've used that word in this post) will end up on the cage floor and I can more easily spot clean it, but they do really seem to like it...

I used to have a tunnel like that but ended up throwing it away as mine just wee in it! I could not see anyway of keeping it clean. Now I buy willow tunnels or soft washable ones. Sorry, I know I did not answer your question.

I used mine in their outdoor run. It used to get full of pee n poop. The only way I successfully cleaned it was by blasting the inside with the garden hose on its most powerful setting then shaking it out as much as poss and leaving it to drip dry before using it again the next day.

I'm exactly the same - high power garden hose and also put the two ends together so there's a big dip in the tube, then fill it with water and get a hand in there (urk!)!

Me too- used in summer and blasted with hose. It was always still a bit yucky which was prob why they loved it so much! Wonder if a loo brush would be any good cleaning it?

I've been using the shower head on it (as we don't have a garden hose) but the water pressure's a bit pants and not doing much.

Hmmmm. I need to have a think.

Thanks for all your help, guys x

Shower and the brush from a dustpan and brush, you can concertina the parts you've cleaned to reach right along. A bit of washing up liquid or pet safe cleaner will also help.

I use shower n a bottle brush that works after a few times for me x

We hd one too and threw it away after a few weeks for the same reason. Ours weed in it loads and it just sits there not draining away so I was concerned about the health side of things. Shame because I like it as an idea.

I had one for there out door run, as well as difficultly cleaning, I didn't like that it's not smooth for their feet, didn't look very comfy!

Once I finally got ours clean and didn't want to go through that again I decided something had to be done so I just pop a bit of folded fleece or a little home made thin fleecy cushion in the bottom of each tunnel ( I cut my tunnels in half to make two) these are much easier to clean - just shake the poo off the fleece and obviously wash the fleece to de-wee it. Tunnel stays clean and piggies have a comfy spot to lie in as well if they fancy a change of snooze location. :)
I should add that I always wedge the tunnels against something ( usually a log tunnel and a piggy palace wall) so that they don't roll around and the fleece stays on the bottom.
