Pets at home hay or haybox

A bit of a mad question, but can those of you that have haybox hay please take a photo of the box? I’ve got absolutely no idea what 2.5kg of hay looks like. Or 15kg! I’m not ever so happy with my usual supplier, it’s been really sharp so want to try something else but I just cannot visualise the quantity!

Also, does it come in plastic?

Hay Box is completely plastic free, it is just hay in a cardboard box :)
I lured Puggle and Theo over to the cage corner near the boxes to give an idea of scale- each of these boxes is 5kg (one is meadow, one timothy). Standard pet shop bags of hay are usually 1 or 2kg if that helps too...

Wow! Thank you, that’s really helpful. So my next question. Would 15kg be 3 of those boxes? Or a box three times that size?

I can answer that as I’ve just switched to a 10kg subscription. MrA was worried about the size of the box but they sent it in 2 x 5kg boxes, so I’m guessing 15k will be 3 of them.

That's very helpful for me too as I just doubled my Haybox order and 10kg boxes would probably not fit through my door thinking about it :) The first timothy we got from there at the start of summer was a bit dry and stalky but the last lot must be this year's cut and it was really good!

Ooh. Brilliant, thank you.
Now to decide what size to go for.

10kg in a month. Hmm I have 5 gpigs and 6 rabbits and get through 9.5 x 2 every month from hayandstraw.

If it helps you to decide, I have 8 piggies and we use 10kg of meadow hay every 4 weeks.
Hmmm maybe I am over indulging my 8 then... they get through 20kg lol :) but Tallulah eats enough for several extra starving piggies and I put a lot of the hayroom and hayloft floors that just gets sat on and peed in then thrown away though!

Maybe I’m just mean. Mine would certainly tell you I’m not generous with the veg, pellets or even the good hay! I do mix in some cheaper bagged hay underneath the good stuff in the hay trays.

It's OK Vicki I won't tell :shh:

Yes thats what we do, I've been getting Pillow Wad as floor hay and Haybox for eating but the Pillow Wad hasnt been so good lately and I want to ditch the plastic so next month we are going double Haybox!

And I am super mean with pellets, a 1.5kg bag lasts over a month if I do the feeds, its 12 to 16 pellets per meal piggies if mummy feeds you! Piggy daddy overfeeds everything but since he has his evening job (to subsidise the expensive hay habit!) the pellet rations are frugal like Oliver Twist or something :)

Mine get a strict tablespoon per piggy per day of Science Selective Grain Free pellets per day for breakfast. No more, no less. They are gone in about 5 seconds flat. Then if they are hungry they can scoff hay until around 4pm when its forage for tea (winter time only) and veg for dinner around 7ish.

Just placed my first ordered with haybox - rather excited! I am so fed up with (and I’ve only been having to have it for the last couple of months since I stopped being able to get farm bales) the bagged pet shop hay being stalky so I really hope this lives up to the reviews!

The Haybox hay looks like good stuff x Get mine from local farmer, its organic and in the countryside, never come across any rubbish in it so far, but will be vigilant

Get my hay from a local farmer too. It is usually lovely stuff. This time I found a feather in it and some stalky weedy thing which is most unusual. I have located another farm near to where I'll be moving to.

My first haybox delivery has just been made! The delivery driver said ‘whatever is in there has made my van smell lovely!’ thats a good sign, I thought!
But oh my word, I’ve just opened the box and that is some of the nicest hay I have ever seen! Off to go and get Dexter and Pops the pigs and patch the rabbit’s verdict on the subject!

Has anybody used the guinea pig pellets from haybox? Not a lot of info on them, it just says made up of over 40 different types of grasses.
