Hi there,

So my boy stan will only eat Pets at home nuggets with mint and rosemary in them, but I was wondering if the tesco ones are any good?

Mainly because I work for tesco, but he needs some food and I went to three pets at home near me. And they said they wont be getting any in?

I dont understand why. But stan being a very picky eater he wont eat anything other than the PAH ones.

Maybe you could chop some mint into a bowl of other nuggets to make it smell like the PAH ones.

I don't feed Pets at Home or Tesco Nuggets as I don't like the ingredients. I prefer to feed grainless, mine like Science Selective Grainless, JR Farm, or Verse Laga, the only other one I feed occasionally if I can't get the others is Burgess with mint, which might appeal to your piggy if he's used to mint.

I would say no to the Tesco ones because they also contain alfalfa. I’d try another brand on the list that doesn’t have alfalfa as the main ingredient. If you go through the list and write down which ones you’re considering then you can search on the forum to see what people say. As an aside, I use harringtons.

Because my piggy got diagnosed with excess calcium in her urine after there being blood in it, I use grain free selectiv which I get from Amazon or PAH.

I prefer to feed a hay based, grain free (wheat/wheatfeed free) pellet, so use science selective grain free

We feed science selective grain free too, and not very many of them- pellets are a very minor part of the diet, so while its good to offer a few as a source of additional vitamins and minerals, if they don't eat them they are probably getting enough nutrition from their veg and hay!

I'm swapping mine onto science selective grainless at the moment but as pellet's are not necessarily an essential part of the piggies diet I wouldn't worry if your baby's not a fan as long as they are eating plenty of hay and veggies.

Unfortunately stan can only eat pepper, at least that's what the vet has told me, the rest has to be in pellets and Hay, although I mainly make sure he has unlimited hay.

Why did the vet say he’s only allowed pepper? What happens when he eats the other veg?

My sow eats science selective grain free, and my boar doesn't eat nuggets, he gave up with select, and Harrington, and there's no other I want to try him on. He just sniffs one, and goes to sleep instead. He's been like this for months and is healthy as far as I can tell.

I have another thread about that, in the health section.

On another note..

I have decided to buy the;

Burgess Excel Adult Guinea Pig With Blackcurrent and Oregano for Ollie, which he used to be on before he came to us from my niece but I couldn't find it.

And for Stan I bought the Burgess Excel Adult Guinea Pig With Mint.

Hopefully he will take to this, otherwise it's back to PAH for there version of the mint ones.
