Hi, apologies if this is a duplicate thread, I only had a quick search.

My pigs have always had Pets at Home guinea pig nuggets. I went in to buy another bag last week to find that the packaging was completely different & an added bit stated it now contains 'rosemary & mint'.

Question is how do I introduce the new flavour nuggets? Half of old & half of new in their food bowl? We have about a quarter of a bag of the old ones left but don't want them to go hungry.

Good question ,you introduce new nuggets buy taking away 10% from your normal nuggets and replacing that 10% with your new nuggets and do that every day so on day two you will have 20% of your new nuggets mixed in so by day 10 you piggys will be fully changed.

When I changed my pigs from a museli to pellets I started adding a little amount of pellets each day until soon it was all pellets and no museli - they hardly noticed and now love their pellets! I too bought a bag of mint Burgess pellets that I have mixed into their current pellets. :)
 
Mine have always had pets at home nuggets to but I've noticed they have not just changed the packaging but the recipe to. Just introduce them slowly start with a tiny amount mixed in and ad a few more each day until they aren't in half and half. After that you can probably just swap them completely as they will be used to the new pellets by now. I have decided I am going to change brands as I've noticed it is an alfalfa based pellet now (not sure if it used to be) so I'm going to swap to science selective grain free Timothy based pellets.
 
I changed mine over from P@H to Harringtons as quite a few people on here feed Harringtons to their piggies.
 
I'm trying to change to grainless pellets so at the moment they are having Burgess, Science Selective and Science grainless . They do leave a few grainless ones and still prefer the Burgess but I'll persevere! Only the youngsters eat a lot though which is fine as still growing!

We started the switch process on Tuesday, they weren't happy at first but we found an empty nugget dish this morning so they have eaten them. Suppose they have no choice really.

I would also like to know if alfalfa based pellets could cause problems? I noticed that the design of the bag had changed but didn’t think to see if the ingredients had changed. I’m feeding one of my piggies around 30g a day plus Timothy hay as veg was causing him to have really soft and wet poo, otherwise I only give pellets occasionally. It’s a shame PAH couldn’t supply both types for a little while to give owners the chance to change gradually. I only went to buy more when I started scraping the bottom of the bag so not as good of a changeover as I would have liked.
 
it will not cause any harm,most uk pellets have alafafa in.it tends to have a higher calcium level than grainless pellets.if you have any piggies with bladder problems it is thought to be better to feed grainless pellets.
