Quite a while back when i popped in to tuck my piggies in goodnight, i noticed lil black bugs with wings hanging around at the deep of the woodshavings, so the next day i asked my dad if we could go pets at home (my normal pet shop) to get woodshavings as normal but because we were near Hobdays pet shop, we went their instead. After that it stopped, we still got hay from pets at home because it was a lot less stringy than hobdays but woodshavings was cheap and more by the bulk. i went back to pets at home woodshaving about 1 month ago. We were buyiing the hay and decided it was easier to get it then and now. i filled it up into a container which lasts me for about a month or so. On monday, we put the piggies in the kitchen run. In that time, poor biccy got wee all over herself and was such a mess i had to wash her. In her water, i noticed little black dots floating in the water and some on her fur. one was a huge black bug, i got concerned. today i was them all and decided to let biscuit go in to. the water was a bit dirty by her turn, i didnt see any black dots in the water before and i checked my other piggys who seemed to be cleaned. i blamed it on myself, when i seen a huge black bug again i thought it might be lice so i checked all my piggies but non were found. so i thought it might be because of cleaning, I'm moving the piggies hutches, because I'm saving up for a new hutch so they have moved into a tempoary 3 foot hutch until after christmas. while filling up the hutch i scraped into the woodshavings from pets at home and noticed little black bits and one huge black bug like the ones in bicscuits fur. >:( i am so annoyed, my piggies are sitting in hay now. they are already uncomfortable in such a small hutch for 4 of them, (which cant b helped because the other 1 is getting sold) now they will be sitting on hay, i will make sure to always go to hobdays now! :)

I use P@H shavings for my rabbits and have never noticed any problems, so maybe it got contaminated where you store it?

Also, it's not recommended that guineapigs are bedded on shavings and they won't be uncomfortable on hay, they normally love rumaging and burrowing in hay!

Last time i was at PAH they had lavender woodshavings. Thought it was a bit odd.
