I'm starting to understand why peeps go to pets at home , l have been trying for days to find a rescue pig for my 2 fragile torty sows ,
The main rescue said they would send out a home cheq , but that was well over a week ago and I've heard nothing .
I did see the ideal sow in the GP adds on gumb tree she is partly blind , and it is reletivly near to me , but despite several messages l still have not heard from the keeper . I am serosly considering going to pets a home for a partner (baby pig) for my 2 torty sows :soz:

I've just agreed to take 2 young piggies off a friend of a friend. She got hers at Pets at Home too as she said she couldn't find any babies anywhere else. I looked at shelters in my area before I got my two ast year and I couldn't find many near by. I don't blame people for going to pet stores, although I know it's not ideal.

I must admit I've only had luck once at a rescue. When you have a pining piggy you can't afford to hang around. Although I do realise that they have to make the necessary checks.
Why don't you ring them again.

Hi there , yes l am going to phone them in the morning , l just hope the 2 sows l was looking two adopt have not bee taken . They did say that priority is given 2 applicants that live closer to there rescue

We could ask Stewy to organise a piggy train if necessary @gizzy. Who are you waiting for a home check from?

I really don't understand the pet shop need really. I've adopted pigs on 5 occasions and only once was from p@h adoption centre and was my partners fault for going in for crickets for the gecko then telling me I needed to hold her. Other than that I've not seen a shortage in pigs in rescue to adopt especially when there is no rush (ie you currently have a pair so severe grief to stop eating etc isn't a problem).

What's a piggy train @VickiA ?

I think it's all about timing. If there's not many shelters around your area then it's going to be difficult to find the right piggies. I imagine it makes it a lot more difficult when there's communication issues, as above.

.

Piggy train is coordinated by one of our members who also runs his own guinea pig rescue. The aim is to move piggies from rescues to new permanent homes or from rescue to rescue or from home to a rescue. Volunteers do legs of the journey to beak it up. Bit like a guinea pig relay with the piggy passing from volunteer to volunteer along the way. It's a fabulous way to move piggies round the country. @Stewybus coordinates it through a Facebook group.

Hehe, sounds very comical, but I imagine it's a very helpful way to get piggies transported.
Would you say there's a limit to how far a piggy can travel without getting too stressed?

They can usually manage a few hours at a time with breaks in between to rest, be fed and watered. Sometimes they break the journey overnight if some of the piggy train members can accommodate it. One member recently brought a piggy down from Scotland to the Potteries Guinea Pig rescue in Stoke on Trent with no ill effect.

Hi Dave, Would you consider a neutered male as a companion for your 2 girls. I know we're a distance away but we have several boys who are safe or soon will be at Tees Valley Guinea Pig Rescue. A dating session would be essential as it would be up to the girls to choose their dream piggy.

We also have a 3.5 year old pair of girls, Coco & Doris :)

The two stores near me are very good. My local guinea pig rescue places don't always have a piggy that I can rescue.

Hi PiggyOwner , Kiran!? Do you mean Cara lane ! I. Have contacted. Cara lane , but if Kiran is different then no ! Have you got a Web link,

Hi @gizzy @Kiara is a forum member who is in Blackpool area who took in a very large rescue of piggies before Christmas. It would be worth sending her a private message through the forum as she does have piggies to be rehomed
