In my eyes, "PUT UP OR SHUT UP " mallethead grrrr:( pow-pow

I don't go to pet at Home but I did hear about there VIP bunnies it's pretty horrific neutering and flying in Bunnies from Spain.

I certainly won't be stepping foot in there store!

Hear hear!

I've not stepped foot in one of their stomach turning shops for about 3 years.

They aren't stories it's truth I saw a letter pet at home wrote in relation to the bunnies, they are going to look into finding a vet in UK to neuter at 4 weeks if the trial is successful!

AGREED i wish people would stop complaining about it !

People can hold a gruge about something thats your choice, i don't think that by shopping there it makes anyone a bad person like everyone seems to make it out to be...

tbh it was only til i read all the bad stuff on here that i realised how bad it was! so now i dont go in there, end of!

I agree, by all means shop where you want, but dont moan about it ! :))

Anyone who shops there is supporting animal farm breeding and helping to spread rubbish advice and causing animals to live in stupid cages.

Personally I think Prats at home is only good for the adoption centre Chinese hamsters , chins are hard to get hold of so mine was from there. So I supported farm breeding by taking their too old to sell stock .

Really ?
That's a little out of line to say, i think it's fair to hold your own opinions but personally i'm on a tight budget i have to sometimes go there to buy cat food on offer because it's either that or my cat doesn't eat.
I don't go in there singing about how i love supporting bad breeding i don't skip around saying lets all buy small cages !?!?!

ANYWAYS ... this was to stop arguing not promote an argument so i think I'm just going to try and leave my opinion there ...

So dont moan when you hear them giving advice you dont agree with :)

Sorry for being so harsh but I did warn, I was fed up with people moaning and still shopping. "If you dont like the ride, then get off the bus" :)

Jumping to conclusions much. I didnt go in there actually.

I said nothing out of line, its just the truth. When the truth becomes out of line we live in a scary world.

And as for budgets pets at home is the most expensive place to buy pet supplies compared to supermarkets or wilkinsons even small pet shops are cheaper , if its the only pet shop in walking or bus distance then yeah I suppose its the only option but there is still the internet to buy stuff, for me at least petrol to get to let's at home is more than postage even on a 15kg bag of food.

Everyone has the right to shop where they want of course but while that shop is making profit and seliing stupid products they won't change , I'd also imagine they ate the largest buyer (apart from animal testing labs) of farm bred animals in the UK.

I get it there when it's on offer ...

i dont think it's fair to say people can shop where they want if there always going to have someone there saying what there doing is wrong ...

The problem is even if we all never set foot in there again, it will never make any difference because there are so many people with cats, dogs, fish etc who will always buy their supplies from there :( I kind of feel it's a bit much to tell anyone where to buy there pet supplies as they are only doing what's best for their pets at the end of the day & not everyone has a local pet shop (or they may be worse) or can buy stuff on the internet either.

Personally I would be more happy if the sales of all animals in pet stores was completely banned but there you go rolleyes

I think that's a little harsh and somewhat hypocritical.

At some times of year I can't avoid shopping in P@H. This doesn't mean that I support what they do, it just means that I have an animal to feed and I cannot get food elsewhere! (specifically Colin, who's food can't be ordered from online stores during the winter as it's too cold to ship live food and it just dies).

I've recently been considering opening an "animal friendly" pet store - pro rescue (ie not selling animals but advertising animals for rehoming in rescues), only selling cages that meet RSPCA requirements, correct information being given etc. but I honestly think it'd be a waste of time and I'd be closing it again within 12 months! The majority of small pet owners in particular sadly like to buy things cheap, even if this means buying things that are substandard, and most pet store pets are bought as impulse buys.

Just because I shop at P@H, it doesn't mean that I fall into this catagory.

The thing is as Bekki said THEY ARE NOT CHEAP!

This is what people don't get, their hay for example is £5 for a tiny bag of quite crap quality hay. you can buy a BALE for that! All you need is a shed and a blanket and you have storage, it will easily last 6 months if kept airy and dry, and it's pretty easy to google 'farm supplies' or 'horse supplies' in your area.

You can get cat and dog food from Macro or Costco, again so much cheaper, even the supermarkets have good deals most of the time.

Sorry but they sell so much crap at such a stupid price.

Their products might not be cheap, but it's certainly cheaper to buy a 80cm cage for your new pair of impulse bought guinea pigs than an adequately sized cage that they don't even stock in their stores! mallethead

Its not cheap, I know.
I usually get all my bedding/food/hay supplies from my local farm store (about a 10 minute drive).
But sometimes, its just so much easier to go to pets at home, simply because its only a couple of minutes walk from my house. (This just means I'm really lazy haha :(|) )
Some people don't have an alternative to buying supplies from PAH. This doesn't mean they are 'supporting animal farm breeding and helping to spread rubbish advice and causing animals to live in stupid cages.'
I just think all this complaining about it is completely pointless, if you don't want to know about it, then don't go in there! Its simple enough, really.

Twiams what cat food do you buy? Can I also ask how much it cost's, I want to try and source it online for you at a cheaper price hopefully!

I get all my piggie things else where but if cat food is like 2 for 1 i don't hesitate in buying it form pets at home ...

This is true, I meant on a like for like basis, but can see how the cheap crap stuff is more tempting. I can see your point in that starting a decent shop would probably close within a year, but what annoys me most is, if you have to BUY the flipping animal on a budget what happens when you get a vet bill etc?!

Grr grr grr (Sorry, am in the process of moving, I do not cope well with stress)

Sourcing online is great but no one is ever at home to get it, leaving us the added inconvenience of going to the post office to get it during there stupid hours, my mum buys the cat food but if she see's an advert she asks me to go to pets at home to get it for her and we stock up a little,

You can request the courier's to leave the Cat food somewhere at your house I frequently get left parcels in or behind the bin! :(|)

Yeah, I just think people would see it as expensive (albeit correct size cages which are more expensive than nice cheaper small ones!) with no cute animals to coo over :(

I get my stuff delivered to my work address. Always someone there to receive it, or I send it to my mum's, who is usually in!
