I dont think that some of the stuff on here is completely fair...

I have to get my rabbit food from their... I can't find anywhere that stocks 10kg of bugess excel... And ordering off the Internet isn't an option as I can barely afford the price of the food let alone the postage on top... Plus... I'm terrible for having to buy food the same day I've run out... Because I'm un-organised like that.. :))
I do (unfortunatly) find them quite useful for certain things that can't be sourced else where...

Not everyone that spends their money there is going with the intention of backing pointless breeding... I am most defiantly not...

My cat used to have both dry and wet food but physically can't eat dry anymore, she's quite old and only has teeth on one side of her mouth left as the other half basically have rotted away , the vet has said just to use wet food from now on so it's our only option really.

This is what people don't get, their hay for example is £5 for a tiny bag of quite crap quality hay. you can buy a BALE for that! All you need is a shed and a blanket and you have storage, it will easily last 6 months if kept airy and dry, and it's pretty easy to google 'farm supplies' or 'horse supplies' in your area.

You can get cat and dog food from Macro or Costco, again so much cheaper, even the supermarkets have good deals most of the time.

Sorry but they sell so much crap at such a stupid price.

i have 9 cats (as well as everything else) and they DO have the particular food that i buy on offer quite often. so you see, you can get stuff cheaper in there at times. i have to buy where i can get the food cheapest. i do have morals and agree with what you say about the things they do but unfortunately i cannot afford to pay more when i can get a decent deal from them. my animals need to be fed and i always search for the best deal - if that happens to be at pets at home, i'm afraid i have to buy it

you have to be careful feeding too much dried food to cats as it causes cystitis and crystals in the bladder and tubes. this is all to often fatal in male cats. we have 3 cats that suffer from time to time with it - 2 caused by stress the other through eating dry food. wet food is much better and healthier for them.

Uh, excuse me OP, some of us do not shop in there and still moan about it because we have SEEN stores that make us angry and have to read post after post from people on this forum!

I do not shop there and I have, do and will keep moaning about it - If we want to moan about something, this is a PUBLIC place and we will - if you don't like it, DON'T READ THE THREADS! No one is making you and most of the time when someone moans about them, they put P@H etc in the title.

No one is twisting your arm, go and read something else!

If you don't like people moaning about Pets at Home why look at the threads, same logic applies to me. I use P@H because it's near enough the only option sometimes and sometimes I do see/ hear things I don't like and yer sure I can just put up with it but I thought this is a place where we can rant about things that annoy us with like minded people. I'm not personally a moaner, it's too much effort for me to sit and write about it so I don't but I do get why people moan and if that's what they wanna do that's up to them.

I shop in P@H- not happily because I don't like the idea that they sell farmed animals but sometimes it is near enough the only option. Fortunately since changing dog food my visits are pretty much just for Guinea pig food now. I wouldn't go as far as saying people who shop there are supporting animal farming but in the same respect I wouldn't say they're helping it either :)).
 
Honestly, I agree with the OP. There is nothing I find more frustrating than hearing people moan about something they can change. However, I just avoid the threads for that reason.

And that is fine, and you're not moaning. Anyway, like my thread said, if you are going to moan, I suggest you dont go in or you are accepting what goes on be it good or bad :))

You say you dont have another option, everybody has an option just like everybody has a choice :)

My other options include: the local pet shop that likes to keep the animals on wee wee ridden newspaper most of the time and also sells farmed puppies and kittens, another pet store that sells animals but sells the same products for a lot more than P@H which financially isn't viable for me at the moment and although i'd love to do online and sometimes do it ends up costing me almost double the price due to postage when I just need to buy pellets. I'd love to totally stop buying from P@H but at the moment I'm finding it very hard to make that happen so it's not a matter of choice and options.
 
Buying from these people you are essentially saying its ok for them mistreat animals. I hope ou are aware the money your spending is funding there breeding rabbits in Spain, snipping them and removing from there mothers at 4 weeks of age then importing them here to be sold as VIP rabbits. Happy your money is being used for this?

Personally I'd rather spend double on supplies than advocate this abuse. There's always an alternative to this store. Sadly the bottom line is money...

Thank you :)) brand is perfect ;). Now just comes the bigger problem of not having a bank account with money in it mallethead.

EDIT: Hay I'm good for that comes from the local farm shop. Just the pellets I get from P@H.

Haha. Yes, I'm awfull at making sure theres money in my bank account when payments need to go in/out!

If you were happy to buy in bulk, like maybe a 10kg bag I might be able to find it cheaper again. Just depends what your after really.

I never use pets at home i have 25 of my own guinea pigs and the rescue too. Even if i did not buy bigger packs i would never give my money too them. Not all pet shops are bad i support my local shop store they valued my advice and made store improvements and stock great range guinea pig products. Trouble is with pets at risk is i know i would be such a small fish in their sea i just keep on swimming and gather new fish in my shoal !

I'd also rather spend double. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to be able to do so, like a lot of other people.
 
I think I've been in my local pets at risk twice in 3 years and mine isn't too bad but don't agree with their lack of morals as a company. However I live in a small town with one asda, one sainsburys an Aldi (no good for small furries anyway) and a just for pets on the outskirts of town (which I mainly use as its near work & they don't sell animals but you would have to drive to get there). So this leaves the gigantic pets at risk in the town centr ideal for people as its now the main option :(

So all you can do is your best for your pets and hope that one day they come unstuck :{
 
People can shop wherever they damn well please - people can read the facts regarding places/conditions etc and then it's up to individuals what they do with that information. No-one should be dictated to as to where they should shop.

It isn't just PaH that dont have good ethics - what about every product brand that tests on animals! What about every butchers/fishmongers/supermarkets!

How many people bleet on here about PaH and then go home and tuck into a steak?! Or buy some L'oreal make-up products?! pow-pow
 
I fail to see the point of the thread, there have been multiple threads with the bad bits (and some good) about p@h, and other pet shops, but those new members might not be aware of these threads so a lot of us who have stopped going in (or rarely) will mention previous moans about the shop.

I gave up using the shop years ago when they went from a great place with lots of new brands and good prices to few brands and expensive prices, lucky enough to opt for local non pet selling pet shops and internet shops. But I will not be made to feel guilty for having to pop in on the odd occasion when I have no other choice for what ever reason for using them to buy products (never animals). There are many shops I wont actively support, but if I have no other choice I will use them if I need to.

I will not stop education others to the reasons why I personally avoid using the shop when I can

The makeup I agree with, but I'm sorry, the reason I dont shop in pets at home is not just the conditions of the animals, its the fact they continually claim to be working in the pets interests while handing out advice that puts guinea pigs at risk.

Your local supermarket is not claiming to be working in the best interests of the steak. (or rather the cow it came from) When I buy my steak I am not given any illusion that I am doing good. Pets at home lure people in with their "charity projects" and make them believe they are arming the customer with the knowledge to care for their animal properly.

But like I said, your right about the makeup. And also, the OP wasnt saying people shouldnt shop their, he/she was saying people shouldnt shop there and then moan about their practises.

Well said, I do not buy pets from them as i dont agree with how they sell their pets, but there is nothing stopping from them selling pet supplies, as i get mine from there as they have good deals and are close to me.

It is up to people where they shop and get their supplies, find the place that works for you
