Whats the issue with this place I saw some old thread and wondered if anyone could go into further detail was considering buying from this place but now I am not so sure

There are varying opinions on whether to shop there or not but basically:

Basically by shopping at pets at home you are supporting a company that buys from breeding farms, does not train staff properly, give terrible care advice, sells sick animals, sells pregnant animals etc etc

Guess I will have to keep looking! Hopefully can find some around the north east way, the only one I would not have minded is the pregnant animals lol

we are a rescue friendly forum, so rescue!
they're usually a lot tamer, and are fully vet checked before!

where abouts in the UK are you?
we could recommend you a rescue :)

North east I can get to the surrounding areas though such as stockton, middolesbrough, sunderland etc

i got my 3 "girl" piggies from pets at home and 1 was a boy so both girl were pregnant and they had a total of 8 babies, i managed to sex the babies correctly from photos on the net when they were born so god knows how shops cant get it right mallethead

North East Rescue is on our forum list of recommended rescues and rehomes only healthy, well bonded, guaranteed not pregnant piggies. A good rescue also supports you during the settling in period and throughout the lives of their rehomed piggies. I have only heard good things about the lady who runs it in my time on the forum.

It is well worth going that little bit further for a good rescue as you will get so much more for it - especially avoiding the usual pitfalls for new owners, some of which have sadly had a very steep and expensive learning curve!

Long story short, they're in it for the money and not for the welfare. A lot of their products are also severely overpriced and foods they sell (especially for dogs) aren't good quality.
Apparently they've started importing 4 week old animals from Spain

If you check out at least three of the latest posts by newbies you will see that one way or another, they all involve problems caused by buying unbonded piggies from P@H. I think my local branch is excellent, but I also think that it is better to get piggies from a rescue if you can. That way you will have all the back up you need, and will know that the piggies are well looked after, well socialised and will be fitted to you and your circumstances (kids, adults etc).

Check out their video on the website, and see if you believe me that rescuing is MUCH better than buying.

I would like to add my piece about pets at home,i own up i got my two from there the other day the same place i get my hamsters and rabbits in the past, and i would like to say that i think they care about the pets there was one piggy i picked out and she checked it and said no something is not quite right so put aside for the vet,so i choose two others she checked and gave us advice on care and also said any problems give a ring even in years to come and wants us to pop back in the shop in a few months to let her know how they are getting on so personaly i cannot fault how they care for the pets.

Really did not mean to thank your post. I am glad you had a good experience and healthy animals but most of their advice is balls so id never ask them for advice. They do not care for the animals they sell as they sell to anyone in any cage and they buy from breeding farms.
