Hi, i dont no to be honest ;D Will ask her right now ! ;D

To be honest I really think you have enough piggies to look after :) In a few weeks time your off to college and will be very busy with course work ect. I would just hold off buying rescueing anymore untill you know exactly what your up against on your course :)

Hi
Thanks for that but I'm sure i can cope with 1 or 2 more ? I'm 17 and know all about their care and grooming etc but only wanted 1 more and i havent even got many anyway ::)

Can I just say at the risk of being shot down in flames 88) that I only have 5 piggies and work full time, live alone....I have had a cold this week and been feeling really ill and I have to say that I have found just 4 cages a real challenge! It did cross my mind last night to not clean them, but I had to, its not their fault I'm ill! BUt it has been really tough, what with still going to work etc and then coming home to 5 squeaking pigs.
What I'm trying to say that in an ideal world loads of piggies are great but you do have to think of what happens if you are ill etc and there is no one else to help you........even 1 or 2 can be a challenge when you're feeling rotten.......

Thats not a problem in my house though as i have lots of little helpers who ask everytime they come round can i help you clean them when they are clean but just love to help and i let them clean them out even if they are not dirty. I dont live alone and I'm not often ill but when i am then all i do is spend my time in the shed cleaning, grooming and handling for hours

I am going to college soon but i dont see where theres a problem with just 21 piggys that is not enough for me - I want more and have always got my mum to do it if I'm ill O0

;D ;D Just babysitting now with my mum and have just cleaned some out now that were a bit dirty and a little girl helped me :D

I keep them in my shed its quite small and is 10x6 or something and some in a 4 tier hutch outside - My piccies of my shed are somewhere in housing O0 I'm also getting laminate flooring down soon as ive already bought it and some pink blinds in there. :D

I'm 17 but want more piggies as they are just lovely ::)

How do you find time to give them all attention, do you go to work or anything

I only have 2 guineas and 2 rabbits and find that difficult enough what with work and the kids

Well, i dont work or anything and have no kids and have all my time spare except for when I'm eating, babysitting or relaxing on computer :D

Well,
In october 13th I'm getting a lilac boar and a few others maybe texels/merinos if theres any at the show
Just thought id let you all know and that I'm no longer searching for some ! O0

How can you go to college in the day whilst still having enough time to look after 21 piggies when you get home :-\ Don't you have enough? How do you afford them all - what would you do if they all became ill?

Sorry but I don't see how you can :-\ :-X

I do see everyone's point. I'm an adult, have a good job, as does my partner. We own our own house which is a big undertaking financially but we would call ourselves comfortable. I currently have 5 piggies that are, admittedly, spoilt rotten (wouldn't have it any other way) but they are a big expense and take up a lot of my free time.

While at university 9 years ago I only had 1 guinea pig left and made the decision not to get any more because even though I lived at home and my mum helped care for them, I didn't have the time or the money to do so. That was in first year - I couldn't have done it at all in 3rd or 4th year. Free time is a rarity when you get into the thick of college/university not to mention money was tight for me back then - as it is for most students.

Please think about it before you get truly swamped, I know you have the best intentions.

Hi
Thanks for your concerns but ive decided and thought alot about this ;) I know I'm doing the right thing and have lots of people who love them and hold them even when I'm not there which is never :D

Just wondering whether you'd cope financially if say a disease spread around all your pigs or they all got mites etc could you afford to take them all to the vet?

I'm only getting a few more piggys and can cre for them in the day my mum does the garden and hangs washing out and my brother plays out after school so theres lots of people who will watch them as theyll be most likey in their runs even though that takes half the day getting them ALL out ;D Then i put them all away thats what ill do and they get lots of fresh veg and fruit whist they are in the garden etc and loads of cuddles from our visitors

I can afford them as ive saved some money in my bank for them and have just enough for food and stuff untill i go college i dont work at the moment so spend ALL my time with them ALL day ! I dont get any money at all.

If they became ill well ill get my family to take some to the vets as they dont have to pay plus ive got money saved up separate from any other money i have for their other needs just in case.

Well I'm getting well hopefully getting a block of hutches delivered soon so will get some ivermectin orall one too. That can provide for at least 60 times so mites wont be a problem ! ;)

If you're talking about ivermectin in the form of paste/horse wormer this needs to be mixed with something like water to get the correct dosage. Once you've dosed your pigs you can chuck the rest out as it doesn't keep.

I don't understand how you plan to keep more than 21 pigs when you're at college with no money. How do you keep costs down - I would genuinely like to know where I'm going wrong spending so much money! Vet bills for my 5 have already come to well over £200 in the 3 years since I started keeping piggies again and I consider them to be very healthy! Emergencies is emergencies - Bonnie needed surgery so she got it! Bart and Rosie needed a big course of antibiotics for a UTI - they got it! Multiply that figure times 4 to get an estimate for your 20 - it doesn't bear thinking about!
