...And I am so happy! Tess and Leah were the first of the new Milhaven piggies to meet and join the herd. We had space in the hutches to introduce the first of eight (hopefully) new herd members and despite Tess being a little skitty I thought we'd try her and her confident new friend Leah first!

They spent a couple of days out on the lawn with the girls but behind a partition so Tess and Leah weren't overwhelmed with all these new piggies. On Sunday Tess started to get really annoyed at being separate from all the others and was chewing at the bars of the run to get through to all the others. So, towels on hand just in case, I let them meet the girls in person. After a few chin-offs and rumbling around they settled down for some lawn time. The last couple of days since Tess has been hiding in one particular spot; underneath the ramp with just her funky fringe peeking out. But today I think we had a massive breakthrough! I put them all out for some grass munching and Tess and Leah were being really really friendly with the others, going around to all the other pigs and interacting...

The best part... they all started popcorning! Usually only Muffin popcorns (younger and less chub to haul about on a mad do!); but today they were all having a go, even the biggest piggy of the lot, Willow! They looked like a proper little herd and it was like Tess and Leah have always been a part of it. They looked more content with each other today than they have even before the two new additions joined! This evening at piggy dinner time even Tess was out eating with the rest of them, rather than sitting under her ramp expecting food to come to her (which as a caring piggy slave I slip her bits under there so she gets some too!).

I only hope the future introductions go as well! The mums and babies have been out with the partition in place and have started to get acquainted with the herd and that went really well, so fingers crossed when the time comes and the babies are a bit bigger they will slip in just as well, if not better!

Ah brilliant news! Really glad they are getting along and popcorning together! xx>>>

Great news! Babies are usually not much of a problem, they go whoooosh and then they are part of a group... They may be put in place firmly by some of the older sows, though! I have found the easier to introduce piggies (with the notiable exception of the girl who doesn't like crowds) the bigger the group is because it is usually not so much about being top girl but just fitting in.
