Porcellus

Was picking gooseberries yesterday while the girls were on the grass. I glanced sideways and saw Pepper merrily scuttling along the lawn, OUTSIDE THE RUN :o I hadn't realised I'd put the run on an uneven surface, and there was a nice piggy-sized gap in the end. She was chased back in quite easily, so I moved it along until the gap was too small for her (I thought!)
Cheeky little rodent decided to prove me wrong by squeezing out AGAIN! I had to chase her round the side and grab -- she made a horrible noise, but to be honest, I'd rather have a slightly bruised guinea pig than one digested in an owl pellet...
Stuck a rock in front of the gap, which Fat Girl Cinnamon crept up to, trying to look casual, then when I asked her what she was doing, she scuttled away innocently XD
Pepper was fine: when I got them in later, watched the tennis with her sitting on my lap. She was back to her normal shovey-trying-to-get-on-the-floor-nibbley self.

Lol :(|) My sisters piggy did the same thing at the weekend after her run broke at one end, they are little mischief makers arnt they! Good job you spotted her in time :p

They can be surprisingly good escape artists - and persistent at that, once they have spotted a route! welcome to the merry sport of piggie chasing!

The same thing happened with Misty and Sooty a few years ago but it was indoors. We were cleaning the cages and the piggies were in runs in the living room along with our dog. We heard him running around so mum went to check it out and found the 2 piggies running around the living room with Cheeko playing with them! Suprised he didn't have them as dinner. I was scared at the time but it's funny thinking back on it now. We still don't really know how they managed to get out!

i totally agree with Vicky. they are VERY persistent with it once they find the escape route. after gilbert found the hole he kept going at it until I finally covered it up. REALLY GLAD YOU FIGURED OUT BEFORE SOMETHING REALLY BAD HAPPENED. PHEWW.:...

I had Minx disappearing up the stairs when I had to make a dash for the phone (and only ten days before she had babies!) and blind Mischief getting out of the cage, toppling a hay bag and having a happy nap inside... it took us half an hour to find her! They really earned their names!

omg, well i had my sows inside a run and my boar free ranging in the garden, i looked away for a second (if that, more like a blink) and sonny managed to lift up the run and get in with the sows!!! luckily the girls all ran in the other direction because of the clattering of the run!! they're all still intact, luckily i grabbed my little sonny before he had his wicked way! rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes rolleyes

well my gradan is on a little bit of a slop so sometimes i have to fill little gapes in with bricks i allways make sure there is not gaps there can get out of or the cat can get in before there go in them

They seem to have the ability to go 'very flat' and squeeze through the tiniest of gaps :))

Teresa x

Yeah, Pepper is the smallest and shyest, but looks are very deceiving! She's the naughtiest of the pair, and the hardest to catch when they have their floor run.
