Is anyone good at photographing their guinea pigs? I have an SLR but only know how to use it at a beginner's level. I like a shallow depth of field for my photos but the shutter speed isn't quick enough to stop blur!

Help please from you more experienced photographers....

A good source of lighting is what you need to stop blur.
If your flash is on it's less likely to blur as much however this can create some harsh pictures that don't look as attractive, setting up small table lamps in a contained area can often get a nice lighting.
What camera do you have ?

I've had some good results but more by luck than judgement.

Lighting is difficult to get right, I always seem to get shadows in odd places but found outside or in the conservatory in natural light worked best.

Getting down on their level is also good as you get all their fab facial expressions.

As for camera settings I haven't learnt enough from playing with mine to help you there. I just take hundreds and hundreds of shots while they are playing and then pick out the few good ones that don't just feature a blur or a bum shot!
