Hi! This is my first post on here. I got my guinea pigs (2 boys - Ricky & Pippin) at Christmas. They seem quite happy and settled in now, lots of popcorning going on and they seem to get on ok with each other so far. One is really outgoing and runs up to me and will happily climb on to my lap if I have food. The other one is much more shy but he will take food from my hand. However, they both absolutely hate being picked up - everytime I clean their cage I have such a drama trying to get them out and now they seem wise to my earlier tricks of coaxing them into their sleeping bag with food. I hate to chase them and sometimes they chatter their teeth at me so they must hate it. Is this normal behaviour? Is there anything I can do to make it a bit less traumatic for them to be taken out of their cage? Thank you :)

Hi and welcome!

Try the tunnel trick or use a cardboard box with a little veg or readigrass treat at the far end, so they have got an incentive to go inside. Place these in a corner so you can chivvy them in. Tap them gently on the bum if necessary, as piggies on the move will do. Praise them lavishly if they go in.
