I bought my 2 girls from pets at home (bad I know) and i dont think they were never given any sort of vegetables as they are very picky with what they eat. The only thing they really go crazy for is dandelion leaves. They will eat a bit of parsley, but anything else gets left in the bowl. They will eat the outside of the cucumber, but leave the middle. Ive tried carrot, bell pepper, cauliflower leaves, cabbage, and a little bit of banana. They take it from my and then spit it back out. What are your guinea pigs favourite veggies and what can i do to stop them being so picky? Thanks

my guinea pigs love tomato, cos lettuce, apple peel, silverbeet & broccoli among other things. they’ll also eat celery and grapes. keep trying until you find a variety they like but generally they warm up to veggies after you give it to them at least 2 or 3 times if they’re unsure about it the first time because they’re not used to it :)

Mine love Kale, Romaine lettuce, curly lettuce, a small bit of satsuma as a treat, mixed leaf salads, etc. My girls were never generally that fussy about things but with new veg, definitely try to feed it a couple of times, they will start to eat it... I've never met a pig who doesn't go mad over veggies :)

All the pets at homes I've been to, all the pigs only have cabbage to eat. Just keep trying to tempt them with different veg. Bell peppers, coriandor are good

This is my boar in pets at home, before I adopted him and got him home. Look only cabbage, and everytime I've been since and see more pigs, it's only cabbage available. I asked a member of staff and she confirmed it's all they get given to feed the pigs with as veg. View attachment 141297

When I got mine, they were brought from out the back as we wanted girls and there were only boys out. They were absolutely tiny so i assume they’d only just got to the shop, they hadnt been handled at all. Will be going to a rescue next time!

Mine are really skittish and still quite weary of me and the only thing that will make them sit still on my lap is dandelion leaves. I can even manage to brush my long haired one. Ive never tried lettuce or kale, will give it a go. Thanks!

Ah we got our girls from pets at home aswell. The woman said they never handle them unless there's a problem.

But never really had problems when giving mine new foods which is good

I also specifically asked if they were both short hair as ive only had long haired in the past and its been a nightmare to groom them. I was told they would both stay short haired, and surprise surprise, i have one very long haired guinea pig who needs brushing daily and her hair cut fairly regularly! At least theyre both definitely girls!

I have heard of this before. I don't know 100%but big petshops get their pets from huge pet breeding farms. Apparently there is a huge one right down south of u. K. I think you can see it on Google maps, but don't know exactly where it is. So yea they won't have been handled atall really. Bread on a big farm, put in transport and dropped to pets at home. It's no wonder they come to shops with ringworm, mites, and other issues.

Anyway, they are safe with you now. ❤👍🙂

Hey, he's not a big boar there. You have worked wonders with him x

You can safely give lettuce, cucumber, coriander and peppers every day.
Kale, dandelions and parsley is too high in calcium to be fed regularly - it’s fine to give but recommended to only give a small amount once a week
Brassicas - broccoli, cabbage - can be fed but a little and slowly as it can cause bloat
Carrots, fruit - should be considered as treats only as they are high in sugar
Tomatoes should be fed sparingly as they are high in acidity and can lead to a bacterial infection in the skin around their mouth and nose

Introduce new foods slowly and otherwise just keep trying a variety to see if they become interested. They learn from each other so if one decides something tastes good, the other one may well follow

Oh gosh ive been giving dandelions quite regularly as its the only thing theyll sit still on my lap for. I’ll make sure they only get them occasionally from now on!

They are fine to give, don’t worry, but just not too many too often.
