Hi all. I have had my Ali and Pickles for a month now and I'm in a bit of a well....Pickle. Lol. My two girls don't like veggies. The only veggie they like are carrot tops. They go mad when I give them the carrot tops and eat them right away. I've tried giving them broccoli, broccoli stump, peppers, sugar snap peas, Apple, peppers and carrots. They don't eat it. They eat grass all day and their piggy nugget food enriched with vitamin C . How do I get them to try new things? Or does it even matter? They have roughage for their teeth and food enriched with vitamin C. Anyone?

Try cabbage, coriander (always a hit) Parsley and Little gem lettuce. Spring greens also and Cucumber and celery. All tend to be popular

My two boars are just the same; they seem to hate all veg except carrot, broccoli stem and cucumber. I keep persevering and trying new things or retrying something after a week or two and they just leave it. It is quite frustrating as I want them to have a varied diet.

Mine love baby spinach cucumber tomatoes and lettuce

:D Just keep offering different stuff. It may take a long time, but they might eventually eat what you put down for them! I have had my girl, Cedar for 9 months now and she has never eaten tomato - until this week! :yahoo:

I've tried coriander (even though I can't stand the stuff) and parsley (flat and curly) and basil (I love basil) but they just trampled on the herbs. I will just continue trying different veg and fruit until they realise I put it in their cage to eat not to pee on!

Guinea pigs usually learn from their elders what is safe to eat and what not. If they don't have that guidance and come from a place where veg were not fed, then getting them to eat a varied diet can take a lot of patience and perseverance.
It is admittedly much easier with an adult "teacher" companion or a group of rescue piggies - any piggy that dithers too long or is choosy loses out... But then they also have the example of their new family as to what is edible.

Mine were given varied veg as babies so it's a mystery why they aren't keen. As you say patience will have to be the key.

It took 10 months to get mine to eat pepper, they now eat any colour. I gave it to them 4 or 5 times a week until they tried it. We ate a lot of pepper ourselves in this time! They are very fussy with veg and wont eat the same thing more than 2 days running, except green beans but they have to be the expensive fine ones not the chunkier green beans. Cucumber is a firm favourite to.

Mine love cucumber, baby sweetcorn, celery and kale (which if never heard of before joining this site) lol cabbage, and carrot tops too :) I will say though that frankie pig didn't used to try new things before we got fudge, now he loves trying new foods :)
