When it comes to their pellet food, I always buy the high-end "gourmet" if you will, brand with the colourful chunks and what not. I try to keep their nom-noms as organic and natural as possible. The other night I was running late from work and was not able to get to the pet shop before they closed, so I asked my boyfriend to go for me because we were running low on food.

Needless to say, he bought a different brand because he chose the easy way out--went to the local supermarket which only sells one generic brand of food, on account of it's five minutes closer to home than the pet shop (I wouldn't want to put him out, would I?).

Anyway, the boys aren't that enthusiastic about it. I've noticed that once they realize there is food in the bowl, they'll spill it over as usual, have a few nibbles, then look at me as if I've personally insulted them and go sit in their hay. Ultimately, their food does get eaten, but not as quickly as it does when it's their usual food. I've obviously gone out and gotten the stuff I know they're used to, but I don't want to waste the food my boyfriend got.

Is such a sudden change in type of food bad for a piggy's system? I'm just curious as to why such an obviously negative reaction occurred.

I think it would be the sudden change, any changes in food should be gradual so like adding 1/4 new pellets to 3/4 pellets that they are used too, slowly adding more each day.
