Hi,

My 2 boy piggies have been with us since 7 weeks and are now 4 months. They eat really well (lots and lots of hay and when it was warm and dry they kept the grass short!). They eat plenty of complete pellet food but they are so picky with fruit and veg.

Although we give them a mixture they will only eat :

Broccoli (they love it but we only give as a treat)
Carrots (again as a treat)
Cauliflower leaves but not the florets
Dark green cabbage (savoy)

Apple (as a treat)

One of the boys will eat red pepper.

Despite giving them a real variety they are not interested and will leave it in their cage untouched. We were told they would love fresh herbs but nope!

We have tried everything several times.

I feel as though they are not getting enough variety - is there anything we can do to encourage them to eat a better variety of veg and fruit?

Have you tried cucumber and romaine lettuce? I really know how you feel. When I had two piggies they were so fussy and gave me such a hard time. I am laughing to myself at the memory. They would not even eat any vegetables unless I fed them by hand!:))

I think all piggies are picky. Mine suddenly decided they don't like beetroot or sprouts anymore when they ate it the other day! I'm sure if I give them some another time they will like it again :)

Our two used to instantly turn their noses up at and give me the 'you want me to eat *that*' look when we tried with a few different veggies to their usual staples. I found that just leaving a little tray of the veggies in question out, and not giving them the stuff they love to devour encouraged them to try something different, and now they wolf down just about anything! No pepper or tomoto is left untouched!

My lot like..
Cherry tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, apple (a couple don't), spinach, sprouts (they get bored quickly though so don't give it too often), I rarely give them lettuce but they do love it, Kale, banana (an acquired taste)..
Don't worry if they're not big on some veg, just give them a bit less, and try other foods to keep them interested ;)
The latest is Butternut Squash, they loved it, but only ate a bit :)

Keep trying - thier tastes will change

Mine have suddenyl decided they like peppers! I just kept putting it in their bowl and now they snaffle it up.
Mine love:
Romaine lettuce
Cucumber
Kale
Peppers
Apple
Persimmon fruit
Celery
Rocket
Parsley

If I want mine to put on a popcorning performance, I give them a bit of melon - they go MAD for it!
