This is Matilda's tooth!

It is one of Matilda's lower front teeth which she had to have removed on Friday.

Matilda's front teeth had started meeting at a slant around the middle of June, she hadn't lost any weight and seemed to have just adjusted the way she ate, it was the very flappy right ear when she was eating that made me check her teeth. She had spurs on her back molars so was just eating on one side of her mouth. I'm lucky to have a vet who's very experienced at doing dentals without GA so she filed her teeth and she's been fine until last week. I've been checking her teeth every week when I weigh her to make sure they're not slanting again but this week she wouldn't lift her head for me to look and I discovered a lump under her jaw so off to the vet we went. As I suspected it was an abcess under her tooth. My vet said her tooth was wobbly and she squealed when it was touched so clearly painful. She decide the best thing would be to remove it and drain the abcess so she very kindly did it straight away in her lunch break so she didn't have to wait for a longer gap in the afternoon. We decided it would be best for me to take the other girls home and I'd come back later to pick her up. An hour later I had a call to say she was all done, as soon as she woke up she started stuffing her face with hay so could come home. She was still a bit groggy but managed to stay awake long enough to eat some cucumber.

She took a swab which has gone off to the lab incase the Baytril doesn't do the trick and has got Rimadyl for the pain. She's being such a good girl and taking her medication.

As you can see from the tooth part of it is black which is where it's got infected. I was amazed how long it was! I hadn't asked for the tooth, the nurse said the vet knew I'd love to see it :))

I've tried putting it under my pillow but the tooth fairy didn't come, I was hoping she's leave some money for the vet bill!

Here's Matilda in hay eating action when she got home.

Wow, that is impressive. It makes you wonder how a tooth that big can fit in a little piggies mouth ?/

It does make you wonder how on earth you never find them whenever they snap one! I've had a couple of boars do it now by chewing on the bars, but I've never found a tooth!

Hope she's feeling better now :)

One of my rabbits had bad teeth, was pretty new to rabbit ownership (currently dont have any) so didnt realise at first. First signs something was up was when he didnt drink from the bottle only from a bowl outside and he stopped eating his veg. We had a look at him and i had never seen teeth that big, they didnt meet properly in the middle and the bottom ones were almost pushing through his top lip. Got them clipped at the vets a few times then had them out. Didnt affect him much having them out,he still ate and drank well but needed veg cut up for him and couldnt munch grass as easily.

I have a rescue rabbit with malocclusion, he was in a right state when he came to me, had abscesses under both eyes, he was really skinny and could hardly eat or drink, he's had his teeth out but the top two have grown back mallethead I used to have to cut up his veg into bite size pieces but he manages ok now without it being cut but his teeth need sorting every 6 weeks sometimes less.

Wow I had no idea their teeth were so long! Poor little girl. I hope she recovers soon.

Thats huge! Hope she is feeling better soon x

Thank you all. You'd really never know she'd had a tooth out, it hasn't slowed her eating down at all! She's putting up a bit more of a fight now she knows the routine for her medicine! She decided to make a run for it and go behind the cushions on the sofa. I let her have an explore but was slightly worried she was just looking for a dark space to pee in!

:)) :)) Is it the dreaded Baytril?

Cookie was on Septrin for UTI and would run over to the bars for it... Then it was switched to Baytril, she now runs whenever she see's the syrigne.... :))

Glad she is eating really well, lots of love to her x
