I can't quite get over how much my boys wee! I had a rabbit for 11 years and have a hammy too, but neither compares on the piddle-scale. Last night I had Wilbur on my knee for cuddles and after a while he started nibbling gently at my hand. He's never done this before so I put him back - just in time it seems as he headed straight for his prefered toilet corner. I got Otis out for a cuddle straight after but this time I missed any warning signals until I felt a warm wet patch. Fabulous! I put him back quick but had been well and truly piddled on.

I've only had my boys for 6weeks so we're still getting to know each other. How do I avoid this in future? Anyone got any tips or can tell me what your piggie does to let you know he needs to go? X

Most guinea pigs will give signals that they want to pee - a change in their body position, nibbling/nipping, tugging at your clothes, squeaking that sounds slightly higher than their happy squeaks, backing up against you. Others won't give any warnings at all and just pee where they are sat.

A thick towel or a lap pad is a good idea - ruledbyguineapigs (forum member) makes and sells waterproof lap blankets and I love them! So very good for the naughty piggies that think peeing on you is ok.

Very good advice from Suzy, My Esme moves two steps back and lifts her bum miss this and uto - piddle Ewwww...

Lap pads all the way! X

All of mine give warning, they start fidgeting, nibbling and trying to get away, never forget the time toffee did that and i knew what she wanted so i put her back, she had a wee then started climbing the bars and wheeking at me to come back out for more cuddles x)

Brilliant. Thanks for the advice, I'll be on piddle guard looking out for all those signs tonight. The waterproof blanket sounds like a fab move, I'll get in touch with ruledbyguineapigs and add it to my ever increasing 'guinea pig shopping list'. Roll on payday!

Ha awww what a sweetie! Can't wait for the day my boys wheek to come bback out... At the minute they popcorn with relief that its over! Ha. Wilbur seems to quite like a cuddle and was nice and relaxed so I noticed that his behaviour changed when he wanted a wee. Otis on the otherhand is a little furball of energy and doesn't sit still. He did squeek a couple of times before the incident tho which I had taken to mean he was relaxing and chatting... Won't make that mistake again!
