One of my pigs, no matter what the situation is, lays down whenever she's pet from the neck down. It always confused me since I've never had another pig who does this.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows why she does this cause even though she seems pretty relaxed I don't want to hurt or scare her if that's the case.

Thanks in advance :)

My boy Bacon does that too, as far as I know it’s perfectly normal

While appreciating being petted isn't instinctual with piggies, many do learn to enjoy a gentle stroke from their human. If the petting scared her, she would either 1) try to get away, or 2) stay very rigid (in a effort to fool a potential predator into thinking she's an inanimate object and not food). It sounds like she's instead trying to get more comfortable, which means she's appreciative and feels safe.

Some pigs will lay down and relax if they like lap time and being patted. Other pigs are less likely to drop their guard. I've had both pigs who stay on their feet during lap time and pigs that will lay down, stretch out, or even fall asleep!

Our lads (now aged 10 months) are very relaxed while being petted and often lie down to doze in a lap, sometimes sticking out a chooken. They love the attention and are affectionate when being cuddled.

My two stretch out when stroked, especially on a full tummy! I think it’s a sign they trust you x
