Hello,

It's a bit of a long shot but I'm looking for some advice. My piggy slowed down with his eating a few days ago and stopped yesterday. Slightly puffed up, lethargic. We got him in with Simon at the cat and rabbit clinic who said he couldn't see any obvious problem with his teeth but tidied them anyway and he's on antibiotics in case there's something brewing. He's trying to eat but I can see he's not able, the hay comes back out of his mouth. I'm syringe feeding him to get him through but he's getting worse. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Help please.

He's taking it just about, sometimes half willingly sometimes not but I think that's partly down to his personality. He's tried to eat lettuce this morning, bits kept coming back out of his mouth once it had gone in almost intact like he couldn't chew it, but he is interested in food

The fact he's interested is good. Hopefully the antibiotic will help. What did Simon prescribe? What are you giving as syringe food? I mush up the normal nuggets, as piggies seem to accept them so much better than the recovery foods.

He doesn't want to attempt chunks of vegetables, but he'll attempt leafy veg. Simon's prescribed him an antibiotic, not baytril. We're using mushed up pellets rather than critical care. We had some success at lunch time, he could eat spinach if I ripped it up into tiny pieces and hand fed him.

Fingers crossed the antibiotics is working on something that can't yet been seen

He won't frustratingly. We put him out on it yesterday and didn't eat anything. Had a good sniff, attempted it then quickly gave up. I've tested handfuls up too and brought it in but no luck.

Dont want to butt in, but if you ever have trouble mushing up pellets or nuggets. Burgess are perfect for soaking up water and mashing into a recovery mix.

The antibiotic is called marbocyl. Thanks for the Burgess tip, science selective seems to be ok at the moment.

Havnt tried science select yet for it. But that is good to know. Because i feed those now. Do you have the marbocyl in tablet form?

Yep, I'm chopping it up and putting it at the end of a syringe of food which is working fine.

Yea thats it. They have a score in them so they snap in half 👍

Can you hear the crunch when it hits the back teeth? Its kind of funny

I don't want to speak to soon, but he is looking better today. Currently sat in a bag happily eating grass, and has started snuggling again with his pal rather than sitting by himself. Keep those fingers crossed!

That’s amazing news! Simon works his magic again, without even knowing what he’s fixing!

Just an update that my piggy made a full recovery! It was a tough week or so pulling him through the worst of it but then the antibiotics really kicked in and dealt with whatever was hiding under the surface to cause his pain. He's a happy piggy again slowly gaining weight. Thanks for everyone's support :)
