I'm sure any household paint would be okay now days, its many years since manufacturers has lead in their paints

you'll need to use a primer first if painting over old stain

may be post some before and after pictures?

I am concerned about them trying to chew on the side of the hutch, even though its the outside. The problem is we let them free range for hours and unfortunatley they are proper chew monsters. If they injested the paint would it harm them?

thanks for that, I will do. Not sure if it will be a photo worthy finish. The little toads :smitten: have gnawed quite a lot of the front.

The nicest wood stain that is animal safe is cuprinol garden shades. It comes in lovely colours and is odour free. I do not think normal paint would be safe to use ;) I got mine in wilkinsons ;)

You could try sanding the hutches first to remove some of the original stain

:P I knew someone would say this..... I was hoping to get it done without sanding (i feel so lazy today ::) )

Try extra coats of the nicer colour stain to cover it up ;D

No need to sand off the old first I have used cuprinol on more than one hutch and it covered wonderfully ;)

I have th cuprinol colours for my wendyhouse that the buns live in... They are very nice colours althoguh they are much more vibrant when they have dryed!

I was at a household auction the other month and 10 large tins of Cuprinol Garden shades came up.

I got them all for £1.00 a tin, only when I was home did I realise they are all the lilac colour! :(

oh well it will come in one day
