Ive just come back from the vet cos Alvin just wasnt right. He stayed in the corner of the run barely eating and not interacting between the wire with the girls. His eyes looked half closed like he was falling asleep and he was kind of balled up in the corner.
Vets wernt 100% sure whats wrong with him. They think its a stomach bug and gave him an injection to perk him up and given me some recovery powder to mix in water and syringe into him twice a day. My gut says this isnt the right treatment though. I dont know why

What was the injection they gave him?

Did they take any poop samples to determine what the bug might be?

This is going to sound really bad but i cant think what it was off thr top of my head. My 16 month old was screaming and it was so stressful

Do you know what class of medication it was? Antibiotic? Pain relief?

Have they prescribed any medication for you to administer at home?

To be honest, I would be a little concerned about the level of care you received from the vet. If it is a gut problem, it will need very prompt and effective treatment.

I'm a little concerned too if I'm honest. Pain relief id say it was. There was no mention of antibiotics. The only thing i have to give him at home is the recovery powder. No medication

He seemed to think the biggest problem was him not eating. Thats whst i think hes treated him for. He mentioned gastric bug

It might be worth getting a second opinion, if he has a bug in his stomach, then he'll need antibiotics to shift it. The recovery food will keep his weight up and the digestive system moving, and he'll need probiotics to counteract the effects of the antibiotics.

Please start syringe feeding asap. Here is our guide on how to go about it: Complete Syringe Feeding Guide

Did your vets say when to see them again?

I'm giving the recovery poweder but it clogs at the end like all the watery bit gpes through easy but then its packed solid with the powder and it like the full amount isnt going in him

Ive moved his cage right away from the girls as i dont know if hes contagious? Is he? Ir can he go back next to the girls?

What powder is it? Also, have you tried cutting the tip off the end of the 1ml syringe?

Its the syringe the vet gave with the supreme science recovery powder. The syringe comes with the powder as a pair. Itd 15ml syringe. I am used to feeding with one as our baby needed syringe feeding as a newborn

You're gonna have a real hard time using a 15ml. You really need to get a 1ml, it is much easier, and reduces the risk of choking/aspirating.

He takes it real easy. He kind of takes it how he would drink out the bottle. Bites it and swallows. Doesnt fight me or try to get away or anyrhing

You need to cut off the tip of the syringe, like shown in our guide. if at all possible, get a 1 ml syringe from your nearest pharmacy; it is much easier to control and to make sure that nothing is going down the wrong way.
PLEASE read our syringe feeding guide. it has got the pictures that show you exactly how to and how much/how often! ;)
