A friend's usual guinea pig sitter has let them down at short notice so I've been asked to look after their lone male for a week whilst the family go away.
I have a small back garden. Mushroom (the lone pig) will be coming down to us in his hutch which has a run attached to it.
My pair of pigs (Brunel a neutered male and Lilith his wife pig) are currently in residence down at my parent's house as we only got back from our holiday last night.
My question - I'll obviously not be introducing the visiting pig to my pair; but will having another male in a separate run on the lawn upset my Brunel and his bond with Lilith?
I'm still trying to work on the lone male situation - Mushroom is under 2 years old. I've won the husband of the couple in question round to the idea of boar dating to find a friend for him. His wife is amendment that the family is not getting another pig under any circumstances.
I think your boar will smell the visitor and do what my chewy did and go crazy at first but this settled within a day, my question would be how is the visitor piggy going to react to the smell of a girly?
Hope you're right about Brunel settling pretty quickly. I hadn't thought about Mushroom's possible reaction to Lilith. Hopefully by keeping my pig's run well apart from his hutch we'll manage for a week.
The other possible scenario is that our house move date comes through and my pigs get an extended visit to my parents whilst we prepare for the move.
I hope it all works out well for you, it's nice that you have offered to get your friend out of a sticky situation! But I do think he will be very interested in your girly
As for Brunel this is what chewy did just so you know what's normal
Bar chewing
Wheeking constantly
Running all over the run like a crazy thing
Nose is the air sniffing
