Having just got back off hols myself, i'm very grateful to our pig sitter who pops round daily to give them floor time and veggies. In return I dog sit the odd weekend when they're away.

From next Friday for 2 weeks i've been asked to look after a neighbours pig. She lost one of the pair over two years ago, and the other has been alone since, i'm assuming by the name Lily that it's female. I'm going round tomorrow to see what their set up is (i'm not hopeful) and she has said I only have to check in every other day. Obviously, i'm not happy with that so am going to ask if I can bring her down the road to live in our house for the fortnight, she'll have more human company, get more cuddles and I think she'll be happier.

Obviously, i'm not going to attempt to mix her with my pair of girls, and am keeping her in a seperate room. I'm also planning on giving her a short amount of floor time (which I doubt she's had before) in the hall, the other two have been in there before, but not for some time. The place where my girls go when we're in connects to the hall via a door, my question is whether I should leave this door closed, or would I be okay to put up some bars along it so they can't get at each other, but can interact through the bars. Could this cause any problems? I don't want to upset my current pair, but I think it would be nice for her to have a bit of interaction, even if it is only for a short time.

I'll try and improve things for her at home if possible, but it's not financially and logistically possible for me to offer a permanent home if the interest has been lost in her current home. I'd appreciate any thoughts, this is the first time i've looked after someone elses pig. I believe she's around the 5 year old mark.

If your neighbour is happy then visiting through bars is good for piggies as they are social animals. But I would ask about this first.
