I've just arrived back from my lastest visit to the vets with the boys. Churchill has been having ongoing treatment over the last week and a bit for a suspected URI. I took him in pretty much the day after I picked him up from his previous owner, he was snotty and sneezing very loudly. The vet couldn't hear anything untoward in his chest but decided as a precaution to put him on some antibiotics. He's been eating and drinking fine, pooping and peeing as normal since but still sneezes more than the other five pigs (full on sneezes rather than the usual clearing the nose of dust/from grooming etc). Had a chat with the vet today and he thinks it's possible he either has a sensitivity and is therefore producing too much mucus due to a previous illness or infection, or there is something environmental that is having an effect on him.

Just wondered whether anyone has had/has any experience with a piggie showing symptoms/have an allergy to something?

Hi there,

Yes I experienced this with my piggie, Walnut, when she was a baby. I thought she had a URI and took her to the Vet's where they prescribed 2 weeks of antibiotics. Even after the medication she kept sneezing and even her little voice sounded like she had laryingitis.

So I ended up giving her allergy medication using the directions on this forum and she totally cleared up. Next spring/summer she didn't have hayfever and has been fine ever since. It was strange.

I hope this helps :)

Thankyou :) I think it is something I'm going to have to have a look into. As he finishes his course of antibiotics on Friday. I will monitor him over the weekend and go from there. Which allergy meds did you use, out of interest?

Hope Walnut is still well :)

I believe what they recommend on this forum is Sudafed. But I used Dimetapp grape flavour.

I would start a new thread asking because I'm not sure of the dosages and I'm not 100% sure it is Sudafed. :)
