Me and my parents are going away for a week down south during the summer. Unfortunately my sister cannot take care of my 4 babies due to her hay/ animal allergies. I dont really know my neighbours so i've been looking at small animal boarding for that week as i have 4 very highly maintained long haired pigs. I was just wondering if anyone had used these kinds of places (North East Piggy Boarding etc) and they opinions on them. I just want them to be well looked after by someone like me as I feel some people do not take guinea pig care as seriously as me lol. Thank you =D

Hi! I don't know where you are located, if you let us know we might be able to reccomend somewhere?
I boarded my boys for a week for the first time last year. In previous years I had always had 2 pigs and they went to my mums, despite her allergies, BUT the year before last, right after I got back off hols, i got a second pair so last year there was no way she could have 4 in her house so I had to think about boarding. Luckily, Teejay on here does boarding (www.vippiggies.co.uk) and she started up because she understood people wanted their piggies and other small animals to be looked after the same way she would lok after her own. Her service is amazing, she also has a brill vet just in case anything were to happen which is reassuring. The boys were spoilt rotten to be honest! They loved it and the best way I can describe it is that it was home from home for them.
Teejay is in the midlands so if that is a bit far or you find someone local then do feel free to visit before hand and ask lots of questions. I visited even though I know Teejay lol! It puts your mind at rest to see the set up. Plus, a good tip I was given was to put a couple of their beds in a bad, unwashed, so they have their scent from home, it's relaxing and if you have boys, stops the need to reestablish dominance so much.

When we go on holiday once a year, I board my piggies with a local small animal hotel. The owners live on a farm and are lovely. They have their own guinea pigs, rabbits and other animals too which is reassuring.

They carry out health checks daily and will groom and nail clip on request.

We are asked to take our own dried food so not to upset their stomachs as well as anything else we wish to take within reason. They provide fresh vegetables and hay daily.

They have their own vet who they use although they would be happy to take to your regular vet if it is within a certain distance.

A good boarding place will only be to happy to offer you an appointment to go and have a look around before booking.

Well, we're just off the M5, so you could bring them here en route to our holidays :)) www.vipiggies.co.uk

No, seriously, you can try www.findpetboarding.com for local places and then I'd highly recommend you visit as many as possible before you make your decision. You need to feel happy that your piggles are going to be well looked after, and a visit gives you the opportunity to have a good look at the facilities and ask any questions you might have.

I hope you find somewhere lovely soon.
