So last night i took one of my girls to the small animal hospital to get checked out as she hasn't been acting herself the past day or two.

She has been coughing a little bit so that was my main worry about getting her checked out. Turns out her breathing and lungs are fine, while getting her checked out the vet listened to her little tummy and said it wasn't making the noises she hopes it would. So i have meds to feed her twice a day and a pain killer once a day (at night) incase she is in any pain.

I do have food to feed her from a syringe, she managed to take a little bit but not as much as she should be. I know i need to keep on but i know she is getting all agitated. After i feed her i put her back on the floor she runs and jumps back into her cage. I know it is day 1 of her medication so she should hopefully pick up a little bit.

The piggies have a lot of hay to sleep on so i hope she is eating that as well but she hasn't been drinking water, well not that i have noticed today.

I don't know if i should take her to my vets tomorrow for another check up, or give her a day or two on the medication she is on.

Hi! Please keep syringe feeding; the more often and the more round the clock the less she takes in during a session. Also offer as much water as she will take; please do not force more feed and water into the mouth than she can hold (0.1 - 0.5 ml at a time). You aim for a minimum of 40-60 ml in 24 hours and try to get as close to that as possible to keep your piggy alive and the guts going. Weigh daily instead of weekly to control the food intake.

Has your vet given you any medication, like gut stimulants, which are important if your vet suspects partial GI stasis or low gut movement.

Please take the time to carefully read these guides. Our step-by-step syringe feeding addresses all areas, including handling an uncooperative guinea pig. Use some piggy whispering to assert your authority (combine that with love and give plenty of encouragement and praise). Syringe feeding, like so many things, gets easier with practice although it is always very hard to feed a piggy that is completely off its food.

I took her back to the Vet today for a little check up because i am an OTT guinea pig mother. This vet said the exact same and said the meds i was to give her are perfect and i should keep going. I have been feeding her water and the recovery food they gave me. Tonight when i got home from the vets she was actually taking the syringe instead of me having to try and force her to take it.

The Vet gave me a few tips on how to make the recovery food a little better for her, also said she is a healthy weight, and she is not dehydrated or anything. Her poops are fine but i need to keep an eye on her over night. She is lively just a little lazy at the moment. Next medication time is around 10pm tonight so here is hoping tomorrow she will be shouting at me again.

Thank you for all the items to read, i'll be reading this while i cook dinner for sure! Always handy to have the tips.

Thank you so much!
