Hello guinea pig forum, recently, about a week ago, I noticed that one of my pig's eyes is having an issue.
Her left eyelid seems to be a little low on her lower eye, like there is a bit of red showing underneath, and I warned to know if I need to take her to the vet or not, or if its not something to worry about. Any responses are greatly appreciated!

Hi! It may be worth having it the eye checked out for conjunctivitis as opposed to pea eye, which affects older guinea pigs and requires no treatment. It is impossible for me to tell.

It might be a good idea to get it checked just in case. Make sure she's happy and healthy.

Okay, thank you for the speedy response, I am also wondering if there are any other symptoms I could check for before paying for a vet visit, as I was recently layed off, and do not have alot of extra money at the moment, but of course I am willing to do so for the pig! I have kinda felt the area around her eye, and it doesnt seem to cause any discomfort, but it looks like ill be making a vet appointment as soon as I can.

Could you post a picture of it? When my Frankie pig had an eye problem I posted a picture on here and got loads of help and great advice X

You will have to judge whether the conjunctiva is inflamed or not. Without any picture, we cannot judge what is the matter. We generally do not recommend treating on spec.

The link with heart disease that is made on Guinea Lynx is by no means proven and does not tally with the observations of experienced vets, so please don't panic over it!

I will take a picture as soon as I get home today, and will post it, that is as long as I can get her to sit still for a second to take it!

Here is the picture of little JB's eye, although it looked noticeably better today, now it only looks like this when she is looking as far up as she can, with her eyes wide open, so it may have fixed itself, at least, as far as I can tell20160319_142433.webp

That looks rather red. I would recommend to have it checked. Hopefully, it will need just some eye drops.

Ii looks like the eye lining is growing a bit over the eye. It may be to cover some irritation. It doesn't look really bad, but it is redder than I would like to leave be.

Thats a great idea to take a trip to the vet as quick as you can.

Just a quick update, took little JB to the vet yesterday, got some antibiotic drops, so i will post in about a week to tell you guys how it goes
