Piggie Feeling Down?

Norman is usually very hyper and runs around alot. Today however he iw more content in sitting in his snuggle sacks, even when food is put out. Normally he will wolf down his veggies. I have seen him eating, so thats good, and Sully seems fine. Do guineas just have off days? I did clean the cage this morning and all seemed fine. Or am i just over reacting?
 
Keep an eye on him to see if he's eating, if he isn't, then a vet visit may be in order.
Piggies do have off days like us humans.
 
Please keep an eye on him, weigh him daily at the same time to get a clear idea on his food intake and if necessary see the vet.
Piggies can have off days, but it could also be the beginning of an ilness.
 
I would also take him to the vet, just in case. Better safe than sorry!
 
Yeah I think we will need to book him in tomorrow if he is no better. He seems a little perkier now so will re-evaluate tomorrow, if he still seems off will take him in.
 
I agree a vet visit is needed if his breathing is laboured, could be the start of a URI or Pneumonia.
 
in that case he will be going even if he seems better. can URI's linger? They have been kept indoors since we got them and are on fleece. We have had them 3 weeks tomorrow so could he of been ill all that time?
 
It is a possibility yes as they have an incubation period. Where was he from?

At least you have spotted the signs early if it does turn out to be something.
 
In which case it is not uncommon for Pets at Home pigs to come down with something shortly after coming home. If he is poorly you can ask them to pay for the vet treatment. Don't let them take him back to treat though.
 
How would i do that? go in and tell them or phone? I dont think our one would take an animal back as such as they do not have one of their own vets here, the closest is over 200 miles away. We live in the middle of no where, but out local vets are very good.
 
I would just call them and go from there. Glad you have a good vet locally. Ask them to check for any fluid on his chest, as he will need diuretics in addition to antibiotics if so. Also he will need probiotics at least an hour after any antibiotic dose. We can help you once you know what you are dealing with (if anything).
 
Starting to get very worried now. Will be phoning first thing tomorrow. tempted to boot Scarlet (cat in profile) out tje bedroom tonight and take the boys in. But i know that wont go down well.
 
My boys had a URI and conjunctivitis when I got them from P@H they paid the vet bills for me so hopefully they will do the same for you. Hope he gets better soon x
 
Try not to worry (I am one to talk), it could just be an off day but if it is something then you have spotted it early and we can help you through it.

I used their in store vet so they just put it through the system but other people have had success using receipts from another vet. My experience of the P@H vets has always been good although I don't use them anymore.
 
Its hard not to worry though. I love him to pieces even though we have not had them long. There was such a long build up to us getting the piggies that i loved them weeks before even getting them. I guess like when you are prearing for a baby, you love them before they are born.
 
ok so a trip in store will be needed. Joy. I hope i get someone who isnt my friend because i really dont want to argue with my mates.

Hi bubblegum, sorry to hear about Norman,I would get him to the vet ASAP. Unfortunately our vet is not guinea savvy but hopefully they will be able to sort Norman out, but don't be fobbed off, if you think he's not right stand your ground.
As for P@H, I would as the vet for a copy of the consultation with any meds required and pop in to the shop. I bet you won't be the first to have had to do this. The staff in our branch are really nice so hopefully there won't be a problem.
I will keep my fingers crossed that the little man is fine, and will be thinking of you too.
 
Thanks. Yeah they are not piggy savvy but have seen quite a few, so are not complete novices. I guess thata one advamtage to being a small place, they pretty much have to deal with everything.
 
he is still sort of iffy about his food, but i watched him eat some lettuce and celery. Should I take Sully to the vet too?
 
From what I have read on the forum that would be a good idea, it keeps them more relaxed to have a friend with them.
 
Well when i went in morning he was at the hay rack as usual, pop corned for his pellets as usual, tried to sit in the dustpan as i spot clean as usual, and all round seemed like himself. Is it possible he was just cold? The weather yere is horrible right now
