Previously I've stuffed hay into square tissue boxes with extra holes cut in and that's worked a treat until they've nibbled it so badly it's fallen apart!

I looked in my local Wilko for a hay rack, but they don't have much small animal stuff. I ended up buying a coconut ball, meant for hamsters etc, and stuff this full of hay for them. That does work well as I've watched them tugging the hay out of it. I still wanted to get them a proper hay rack though but as I'm not allowed to drive for medical reasons at the moment, looks like I will have to get one from the internet.

In the meantime I've rigged up a hay net for them! I came across my son's net bath toy bag which had a missing sucker so was waiting to be thrown out. I've tied it to the bars, cut big holes in it and stuffed it full of hay. They have been happily tugging away at the hay today :)) Looks like I don't need a hay rack after all, so I can buy them something else instead :(|)

Ooo well done! Yes it's always good to find ways on saving money to buy them something much bigger and better :))

I like your tissue box idea. I might just steal that. I use cardboard boxes from shops, cut a little entrance in it and lay the hay in a metal rack so the box cages the falling hay. My boys prefer to lie in the box under the metal rack and sleep there, wake up, nom and go back to sleep. :))

Funny you should say that about your boys as I just noticed Saffy lying under the haynet, guess she's thinking along the same lines as your pigs :(|)

I like that idea as its flexible!
I also like the tissue box idea :))

I have 2 of these, I got mine from Dobbies for £3.99 but if you're unable to drive you can get them on ebay:

It just reminded me of a horses haynet! My hubby goes through phases of moaning at me about how much I spend on the girls, so if I use something we already have it keeps him happy and I can then slip something else in :(|) I do want to get them a proper hayrack, but this will do in the meantime! I saw some cube ones on ebay that I liked so will look again when I next prise his wallet open inbreeding

Is it attached to the inside? The net would certainly solve the problem of hay falling on the floor from our hay holder. Great idea!

Yes it is. Originally I used it's ties and tied it to the wire but hubby put in some hooks, high up so the girls couldn't get hurt on them, and it's now hung up from there. There is still some hay spilling out of it but it's much better than leaving them a big pile. I found there was a lot of wastage where they would wee and poo on it! Now the waste isn't anywhere near as much
