Hiya! I have a naked piggie who is about 1 years old. He’s a great piggie and I adore him. He has always been a beggar for food and more food, which was totally understandable (and cute!). He always had a mountain of hay, which he would demolish. For a lil guy, he ate like lumberjack. The frequency of his begging went up to about once an hour and he would even beg *as he was eating*. Still I found it hilarious.
Until he started begging for food at around 5 am in the morning. His cage is in our bedroom. For about 2 weeks he begged at 5am and then it progressed to almost every half hour from that time. At first I fed him and then tried ignoring him, but he refused to be ignored. The begging would become louder and louder and very insistent. Needless to say this messed up my sleeping and my ability to wake up when my alarm did go off at 7:30 am for work.
I tried adding a lot of food before bed and even at 5am when he decided it was time to wake me for breakfast. Did not help. I tried holding him instead of feeding so he didn’t think begging equaled food. Didn’t help. I read online to put a cover over his cage so I did that one morning and that shut him up but only for that one morning. After that morning he caught on and the begging started again.
So here is where the problem took a turn and I need your advice. On Saturday night I decided to put his cage out of my room so I could sleep. He had all the food he needed. I slept great and he didn’t beg. The next morning I put him back in my room and he has since been a changed piggie. No begging at all. He ignores me. He no longer greets me and has no excitement when I feed him. He still eats, drinks and poops like usual. His eyes/nose are clear and his breathing is good. I held him both Sunday and yesterday. Played music for him that he likes and usually would’ve made him purr. Nothing. This morning when I fed him he still didn’t come out to greet me and wouldn’t take a treat. When I walked away he did eat.
What can I do to get him back to his usual self? It obviously hurt him deeply that I put him outside the bedroom for one night. I will gladly accept my fate of 5am wake ups by a happy piggie over the silent treatment from a sullen one
please help!
