Just wondering if anyone has some to help cover vets fees and if so where from and how much it is?

thanks :)

Insurance for guinea pigs is expensive for what it is, it may be better for you to set aside each month/week when you get paid. A lot of owners (including myself) do this. I put £50 aside and I have 9 pigs.

From what I understand, there are so many exclusions on the policies that it really covers very little. Putting money aside each month is a far better idea. Maybe put it into an ISA and if you're fortunate enough to not need it, then you have a nice little nest egg.

I put a fiver away a week, and any spare change into my piggie bank, i find this way is easier! :)

Brilliant idea, a piggie account, why didn't i think of that mallethead wish i had started last month though, has cost me over £100 so far rolleyes although i do like your idea better Amanda:))

thanks

My mum was wanting me to get my pigs insured (which is odd, because she normally wants nothing to do with them!), but we can't really find anywhere that does guinea pig insurance, only rabbits, cats & dogs etc :(

I have a basic PO account just for them to cover their vets fees but admittedly paid for the last visits from my bank account as I had forgotten mallethead

I was wondering about this as I don't want to find myself struggling with money while trying to save for a deposit for a house, I suppose as well as saving for vet bills a piggy account could be used to buy hay and food and toys etc!

I planned on gettin gmine insured but after being told it owuld be £600 a year i opened a savings accunt and pay into it each week. At least that way if they dont need any treatment ive not paid money out for nothing!

Hi exotic direct (google them) do pet insurance for guinea pigs (and lots of other types of animals such as birds etc) but not cheap. I had a quote for £235 for a year, covering my three piggies for up to £2,000 vets' bills between them. I decided not to insure because I didn't reckon that I would spend that much each and every year. Although I did just spend £350 on poor old Caractacus who eventually had to be pts with bladder cancer :(
