So there is the big forum meetup at Hels' arranged for November and there's a lovely group in the North East who meet up every so often too. It's been considered before for us in the East Anglia region; now I have a suggestion. I have wanted to offer for a while but my mum actually raised the idea this morning!

My mum and I are thinking of holding a "piggie open day" - nothing big or formal, just a piggie day that other piggie people can join in with. We plan to include:

- Educational literature - Factsheets, Cavy Care Leaflets, Cavy Record Folders etc.
- Piggie artwork and poetry - posters, portraits, books
- Photo Studio - if anyone brought their own pigs I can do photos
- Hay and dry food samples.

And of course people will get to meet the HGs (that'll take a while on its own rolleyes) and can receive some tips on syringe-feeding, administering meds, towel-wrapping, grooming and basic health checks.

Refreshments would of course be included.

It's early days yet but.........what are the initial thoughts? It would be held at my home (well, big garden) near Huntingdon, Cambs.

it sounds like it could be fun. when abouts would you be planning it for? depending on when it was, i think it'd be a bit far for me, considering i don't drive and i have to save up just to go to Hels meet :( but it sounds like it would be an all round good, informational experience :)

Where abouts are you in East Anglia? My parents live in Colchester, and it sounds like a fab idea! :-)

That's a great idea am not that far but would need to work out a route that meant I did not have to go on the A1M as motorways terrify me and OH would need to come. Would be wonderful to learn all about the healthchecks etc as we are still new to it all really.

What a great idea - if you can give rough dates we would certainly see if we could pop down I know it is a fair distance but would be interested to learn healthcare stuff :)

Sounds like a fab idea!

I'm not in East Anglia but I haven't heard of any similar meet-ups for the South, so I'd love to try and make it to yours. I'd love to meet the gorgeous (and not just a teeny bit famous!) HGs :)

Oh Laura what a great idea :)
Is it exclusive to 'East' people or can I come too - I'd love to meet you & the piggies xx

Just thinking....I know it's still early stages, but if you do decide to go ahead and need any help with anything, just let me know :)

(I could bring my pop-up gazebo, perhaps bake some homemade cakes or piggy-shaped cookies to sell in aid of the CCT or a rescue of your choice, or whatever!)

That's a wonderful idea Laura. How generous of you to think about throwing open your house/ garden. :)

Oops...just re-read my post and realised that, in my excitement, I forgot to mention the glaringly obvious. What I meant to say was, I could perhaps bake some homemade stuff to sell in aid of The Guinea Pig Helpline, CCT or a rescue of your choice! mallethead

It might not be the kind of thing you're after but I just wanted to offer. After all, it can't be cheap to care for those in-patients and I've been on the receiving end of the Helpline's services myself. You do such a fab job, so it'd be great if I could help you back in some small way, if you were looking to raise some funds on the day x

Aw thank you, it's not exclusive to East people, anyone who wants to come can come! If I could travel I'd come up to Scotland to meet at Hels' too but despite my progress I'm not at that stage yet. :(

I'm glad there is this much interest in the idea so far, I will give some feedback to my mum, she will be as excited as me! Suzanne & Mandy, I will ask Karen and do so hope she would come, she needs to meet Gwenny and Dexter and Peggy and every other pig she's helped me with!

I was thinking of some kind of fundraising aspect too - not for me, the offer is very kind but I'm ok for now thank you. We could ask for donations for any factsheets people want to take (mostly medical factsheets), anything raised from those will go to CCT, and any other fundraising could go to Sophie - given that most of my pigs are from her!

Lots to think about, it is very exciting and I'm so pleased so many of you are interested. It would probably be in a couple of months time at most, before the good weather goes away. I will have a chat to my mum and we shall see if we can figure out some more details and dates etc. Thanks for all the ideas and replies and excitement. :)

Oh I missed this when I was on holiday! Depending on dates etc. I would love to come up too (if Kent folks are invited?!:))) it would be lovely to meet some of you.

Definitely aiming for a big one next summer, whether we can do a smaller one in the next few weeks (ie early October) depends on a few factors. I was hoping for one this month but there were a few problems with getting anything set up (we didn't win the lottery :))), however we are making plans and I will update soon as I can.

And yes, Kent folks are invited Sandra. Anyone is who wants to come! I just can't promise when it would be.
