I was sitting next to the pigs cage, thinking about why I named them what I did, when I suddenly began to wonder why everyone else named their pigs what they did :hmm:

So, What was your reason for naming your piggie what you did? :D

My reasons:

Reggie and Boris were rescues so I didn't choose their names :))

Honey because I thought the stripe down her nose looked like honey

Bumble because we got her as a companion for honey so the names went quite well together. Also because she is all fuzzy like a Bumble bee

Darcy because a few weeks before we got her, A horse I loved very much, called Darcy, had to be put to sleep :bye:

Rosanna (Rosa) because I liked the name :tu:

Felicity & Faith because I also really liked the names and as they're sisters I thought their names should start with the same letter :D

Mistletoe and Jingle because they went into rescue around Christmas and I liked the names

Caramel because it is a sweet name and he is sweet!

Tani, short for Tania which means part of the clan. I felt the need to make her feel included. She lost her cagemate 18 months ago so her ex owners gave her to me so she could have guinea pig company, also she has a tan coloured nose.

Rosie and Cherry were named by the rescue. I may change their names, not sure yet. Only got them today

Spike because he has a spike on his head, we didn't realise at the time this sweet baby would also turn out to have a spiky aby nature!

Peanut was difficult to name and so Peanut was to be temporary while we thought about it - he was peanut shaped and brown, the name stuck.

Bracken because he's gold and black with patches of brindle and his colours reminded me of bracken in autumn.

Rusty's fur is sort of mouse coloured with flecks of a reddy/brown like rust. My partner named him Rusty I'd chosen Dusty while he was at work so he's often called Dusty Rusty!

I named Patchy because of her patchy fur and Coco because of a website with female guinea pig names and Coco was the only name that "fit" her. I really suck at naming my pets and it was almost 2 weeks before Coco got a name but Patchy was easy.

Patchy Coco

I like themed names for groups of animals (our two dogs were Tigger and Roo from Winnie the Pooh)
They came with sort of theme names; Mango, Chutney and Pawpaw.
BB-8 was Mango, but she’s just like BB-8. Chutney became Chewie because of her mad hair and Pawpaw became Rey because she’s small and brown and awesome!

I am not good at all with names... no ideas at all! but I love most of the names the volunteers give to the surrendered pets!
Calipso and Calliope are two gorgeous names for two gorgeous sows:love:. We kept the lovely names chosen by the volunteer who had been their foster mum for two months

Osvaldo comes from another rescue and I am not sure whether he was named by his previous owner or not; Osvaldo in italian sounds like an important name, funny for a piggie. If I had decided to change his name I would have chosen a name linked with mithologic world, like Calipso and Calliope, but we got used to the name Osvaldo since the beginning...

Bunny (3.5 y.o.) - because she looks like a rabbit when we got her as a baby. Up to now, a lot mistake her for a rabbit whenever we visit the vets. She's also big so that's another reason.

Cookie (8 months) - no reason at all why. Just came up with it and hubby agreed.

Prince (8-12 months) - just got him from RSPCA today. He's ginger like Prince Harry haha..hubby's idea.

That first photo of the girls is gorgeous and Osvaldo is very handsome and manly.

I've always named my pigs something related to food or spices. Chutney's name came about because I thought his colouring looked like a chutney of some kind. Bob had been named by the lady I got him from, but might change it to something food related.

My first three i named Groucho (huge eyebrows) the other two were Chicco and Harpo to match that, but I kept calling Harpo 'little dude' because he was smaller and is a real dude.. . It stuck, so Little Dude is now his name.

Bobby and Bailey came already named, and i was going to change them, but they suited them so I stuck with themt.

Velvet is called Velvet because that is what she feels like.
Betsy is called Betsy because she looks like a Betsy.
Christian is called Christian because he's several shades of grey.:D
Dennis is called Dennis as he is wearing trousers (child's logic).
Meg is called Meg cos she looks like a Meg.:luv:

My boyfriend chose our pigs names. We're massively Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire fans so he wanted something related.

Jon Snow is a pink eyed white, and he thought Ghost was a bit obvious and also didn't suit him. So he somehow ended up being Jon Snow.

Podrick Payne was named that because he's just like Podrick from the show. He surprised everyone with his "romancing" skills and managed to get his mother and sister pregnant after his previous owner failed to split them up when he turned 3 weeks old.

My daughter wanted a white piggy with pink eyes called Silk for about six months before we finally got our pigs, because the white piggy with pink eyes that she had cuddled on her school trip to the farm place was so silky.

I felt Clover needed a name from nature, and she looks like a Clover.

Since then the kids have tried renaming them e.g. Marshmallow and Cookie but nothing else has stuck!

Daisy was already called that when I adopted her. Willow was a choice between willow and Florence but she wasn't really a Florence. Next came Donald who was called Jaffa Cake by the rescue but I like human names and with his long locks he looked like Donald trump's toupee so Donald it was. Lily was called pigz so we decided to continue with the botanical theme for names instead and she is white :)

Mine were called Perry and Mason. But I changed the names to Womble and Stripe.
Womble because he looks like a Womble. He's a Peruvian and he has tufts of hair either side of his face and it's a greyish-beige colour. Like a Womble.
And Stripe because he has a random yellow stripe down his nose, between his eyes. It's comes from nowhere! No other colour except lilac then random yellow Stipey stripe. They are also known as the mop and the potato. :D

My current piggies are: Eric, Missy, Clara, Martha, Rose, and Romana, but I’ve had 17 of my own piggies over the years.

There’s a bit of a theme to my piggies’ names :))

Clara is named after Clara Oswald from Doctor Who.

Missy is named after Missy/The Master in Doctor Who. She’s nowhere near as evil as Missy though ha ha.

7CC5B36F-DBEA-466A-AA29-7C3701205C5F.webp
(L-R) Rose is named after Rose Tyler, Peri after Perpugilliam ‘Peri’ Brown, and Martha after Martha Jones, all from Doctor Who.

Eric was already called Eric when I adopted him, and I thought he suited him so I kept it. My colleagues at work call him Prince Eric because my hair was Ariel red when I adopted him lol.

D5660712-0AB4-414D-960D-7D91A6F14F41.webp
(L-R) Ace was named after Dorothy ‘Ace’ McShane, River after River Song, and Amy after Amy Pond, all from Doctor Who.

Nelson was called Nelson when I adopted him. Again, I thought he suited it so I kept it!

Ringo (black & white) was named after Ringo Starr, and Freddie (ginger) was named after Freddie Mercury.

Elma (left) was named after Elma Lockhart, a book character (she was a witch) and Nellie (right) was named after Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd.

Two more to go...

Elphie was named after Elphaba from the musical Wicked.

92CC4AB0-1146-4CD9-BE08-810A99194A61.webp
Glinda was named after G(a)linda the Good from the musical Wicked.

Everyone always thought their names were Alfie and Linda :))

Georgie was named after the cute kid in the 1990 tv film it who dies.

Guiseppe already had his name.

Fuzzy butt and Blackie were originally called daphne and Wilma and my newest 2 were already called snowy and poppy.I'm rubbish at choosing female names as there’s no cool ones so I kept poppy and snowys as they were.
