Hello all!

Am a newbie to this. We are just about to adopt 2 beautiful guineas and was wondering if anyone out there had any good piggie recipes for cereal bars etc. Like the fruit sticks and stuff you can buy at PAH.

They seem pricey for what they are, so thought it would be great if i could make some at home for my little guineas!

try the pampered piggies site they have some stuff to make piggie treats ;)

i had a look at some of those cookie mixes..and some you have to put oil in..i didnt buy any as I'm not keen on giving oil to my guinea pigs ?

do you mean the one's from Galen's garden? oh yeah, :o i didn't realise that. :embarassed: luckily i haven't bought any, just saw that they were on there. i wouldn't give my piggies oil either! :P the other recipies look alright fromt the other website, quite natural. :)

Just had a thought. you could use water or milk instead because i think it's only for binding the ingredients together. might be worth a go. :-\ also the pampered piggies mixes need oil adding too so it must be alright? :-\

maybe..personally I wouldnt buy them, as i dont think guinea pigs should have oil even if it is ok..id much rather but them other chews/toys than biscuits you need to mix with oil in order to make

The amount of oil in the cookie mixes is tiny and necessary to bind them together. Its less than a teaspoon.

You can use vegetable oil, sunflower oil or olive oil etc which is fine as it comes from the plant/fruit/veg- dont use oil for fryers etc though thats where people get confused this would not be good for animals as its not natural!

If you look at most of the treats on the market today and many of the brands of feed they all have a certain level of oil in them.

All i can say is all the treats and foodstuffs from pampered piggies and galens gardens are all natural. My piggies are the most important thing in the world and i would not even concider giving them something which could cause any upset to their delicate systems, thats what the shop is all about.

Binding agents to avoid are honey, egg etc this is not a good binding agent and should be avoided

Hope that helps?!

Thanks, i thought they must be alright if they're on your website, cos your piggies mean a lot to you! :) Also i was getting confused with animal fats (yuck). :embarassed:
