Ok so I don't generally bathe my pigs much as I don't believe they need it unless they get something on them so I generally wipe bums and then just bathe a couple of times a year.

However, I got Winston and Flinn last August and I can see bathing a bit more often might be beneficial to these two as Winston is a lunkarya and Flinn is a coronet, neither of which I have owned before. I learnt early that short hairstyles around the bum is a must! :x

In the past I've just used generic small animal shampoos but I think I'd like some gorgeous guineas shampoo as I hear its good and there's different types.
This is where I'm stuck as I don't know which one might be best?
So along with a lunkarya and a coronet I also have Fuzzy who is a teddy and Tyler who is a short haired.
Can anyone narrow it down to a couple for me to get? What do you guys use/reccomend? :{
Does anyone use anything else?

I suggest you contact Chrissie at GG and ask! She is very approachable and gives good advice. Sometimes smaller sample/trial bottles may be available. Every bottle comes with instructions.

Thanks! I never really thought to email direct! I'd be interested to hear what other people use too.
I'm prepared to buy more than one type as I'm sure that would be best with them all being so different but i just don't want to get it wrong and have something I can't use...

I asked Gorgeous Guineas directly what she'd recommend and now have 2 small testers to try :) I'm just plucking the courage up to bathe the wriggly girls when it gets a bit warmer!

Well, my stand by is Manuka and Neem - it covers both fungal and parasitic problems (but NOT mites - if you suspect mites, you need to treat with invermectin - and unless you are sure what you're doing, go to the vet!) and is a great gentle cleansing shampoo. But I also have some "Lice n easy" as well as little visitors can arrive without warning and in which case you will want to get rid fast. I have tried the Just for Boars shampoo too, but only a trial, as I couldn't justify moving away from M&N. Some people may prefer the scent though.

I have also used the melts, on one of my guineas that has persistent problems with fungal. It is easy to do, but quite time consuming, but I have found it very effective. However, I would always recommend taking vets advice - but I prefer not to use chemicals if I can possibly help it.

I wash mine every 6-8 weeks, three shampoos - quick one, one left for five mins, and another quick one if I have used a melt. If I have had to use a melt, I also repeat a week or so later to break the cycle.

Chrissie has loads of info on her site, and is also very happy to help. Trial sizes of manuka and neem are available on her site just now at £1.35 - I just checked!

JUst to add, the GG shampoos sound so nice, I was quite tempted myself!

Some human varieties are available. For little visitors in my kids' hair I use Neem 40 shampoo - it is the best absolutely for clearing things up without me worrying about poisoning my kids. MiL used it by mistake once when she was staying here and wanted to buy some as it was so great on her hair :)) Had to tell her what it was, but she went and bought some anyway rolleyes

I have also emailed Chrissie a few times in the past, she's fab and very helpful! I have three of her shampoos, they are all great:
- manuka and neem
- Original 4 oil
- Lice and easy

You never know what you could be up against so I like to have a selection stashed away :))

I shall report back after the shower tomorrowxx>>>
On a windswept day I probably resemble a teddy guinea pig having a bad hair day anyway...perhaps GG will have success where John Frieda failed!
