Piggie under the weather after antibiotic injection

Don't be so hard on yourself, you are doing a cracking job - caring for sick piggies is not for the feint hearted. Some pigs don't like critical care, I have one or two who absolutely loath it and despite having years of experience with syringe feeding, it is a real battle to get them to take it. If it's the Oxbow CC that you have it might be worth trying Science Supreme recovery, which you can get from your vet or on line and sometimes from pet shops. There is nothing wrong with soaking Excel pellets, adding additional water until you get a smooth, thin consistency and offering that, sometimes this is kinder to the gut as it's what the piggy is used to eating. I have always found Septrin to be very gentle on piggy tummies and have never had any problems with it. It's always worth having a probiotic in stock (which I think you said you have). Another useful thing to have at home is Infacol which can be helpful for treating bloat. If you can post what area you are in perhaps we can find someone who is used to syringe feeding that can help you get started? Stick with it xx

The critical care smells funny to me, kind of pineapple-y, and neither of my pigs are really into fruit, they prefer leafy greens. So I've ordered some science recovery to see if they prefer it. However she has been eating a bit more this afternoon and wandering around the cage a bit more too, so I haven't had to do any syringe feeding since this morning. I weighed her this afternoon too and she seems to be back up to her normal weight - so fingers crossed she is getting over it. It's good to hear that the septrin will probably be OK for her tummy, I'm a bit worried about starting it though. I do have two different probiotics to try so hopefully one of those will go down OK!

Aw, I understand your worries having a bladder piggy myself :(
Harley had a stone removed two years ago and had to have a bladder washout done in February this year and was extremely ill afterwards and we thought we were going to lose him. He pulled through with 24/7 care and we bought Recovery as he hates Critical Care, mashed banana up for him and tried every trick in the book to get him better so it's so very rewarding to see them back in good health. I made veggie smoothies which were disgusting but it all helped him and seeing the little monkey bouncing around every day now is just more valuable than my own life :) :)
You are doing a wonderful job with Lavender and send hugs to you both x

A more positive update this morning - she is bouncing around much more like usual and sitting on her shelf where she always sits to wait for her veggies, looking out at me through the bars - and last night she actually wheeked for her veggies for the first time in three days, so hopefully she will be OK now, it's a big relief, thanks everyone for all your help.

Fantastic news! I am really pleased, due to your quick reactions and excellent care. xx

Great news, love to Lavender, hope she continues to improve x

Here are a couple of photos of Lavender recovering!

Thanks, I do think they both have very beautiful shiny coats, but then I have to admit I'm probably biased! Her sister Heather is my avatar piggy, they are both pretty much identical except Lavender has a small crest whereas Heather is just smooth all over x)
