Just some quick info on my piggie.
name: Felix
age: 4years
gender: Male

Okay so recently, 17 days ago, my guinea pig Felix went to the vets for lack of appetite, lethargy, and minimum pooping. The vet had a good feel of him and weighed him, and said his kidneys felt quite big and felt a mass. Surgery isnt an option due to him getting old, and i dont have the money.

He was put on 0.05ml metacam (for cats) once a day, and i was given enough selective recovery feed for 4 days.

After 6 days he was back to his normal self.

It's been almost 2 weeks of him being normal, but this morning, hes completely ignoring his veggies, and is hiding away in his piglu. Ive weighed him and hes lost 11g in 2 weeks.

I have leftover metacam and i can grind up his pellets to make a recovery feed.

But idk what else to do :(
i only have £10 and my mum has little money too as we're in the process of moving

Hi and welcome!

Please give Felix the metacam but if he is so ill that he stops eating and becomes lethargic all the time, then please consider having him euthanised as soon as you can afford to as the kindest, most loving gift you can give him to free him from his suffering from an internal tumor and kidney failure, both of which are very painful.
Metacam can only address the pain and the swelling of the kidneys to a certain point but it can unfortunately not heal your piggy as the tumor continues to grow and the kidneys are getting worse. :(

I am very sorry for the timing. Illness and emergencies always happen at the worst possible moment in my own experience.

You are a caring and loving owner. Sadly we can never choose what from and when our pets' time comes; that is in the hands of God. We can only make the days we have been given with with them as happy as possible and spare them any unnecessary suffering when we cannot heal them. It the most heart-breaking decision we can be obliged to make, but at the same time the greatest and most loving gift. Would we not rather suffer a bit more ourselves to make things easier on those we love and care for?

I am very sorry that I do not have an easy quick fix or magic wand solution for you. But neither of Felix health issues is sadly fixable in the long term.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't add any advice, just wanted to send you and Felix best wishes x

Welcome and sorry that it is under sad circumstances. @Wiebke has given you the best advice.. You clearly care and sorry you are going through this with Felix x

I'm so sorry for what you are going through, illness always creeps up at the most trying of times. If you feel it's his time and do not have the funds it might be worth asking your vets if they can do a payment plan and pay what you can now followed either by the remainder after payday or in installments
