Hello!

just wanted some advice please…

My piggy who is approximately about 4ish ( from a rescue so estimating a little) seems a little off colour. She’s one of four piggies in a cage.

I’ve had many piggies over the years who have had various health issues but I’m a bit pre plexed.

She just seems quite and eating but not as much as usual. Her weight is stable so must be eating enough to
Maintain.

There are no signs of straining when going to the loo, no blood. No visual signs of a virus like wheezing or mucus.

I took her to the vets yesterday as who gave her a prod and checked her over and said they thought she seemed ok?! Though they aren’t exotic specialists.

What would your next steps be? I’ve ordered the critical care and got her favourite veggies in. They are in our dinning room so can be be monitored.

Many thanks

I’m sorry to hear this

It’s very difficult when there are no clear signs (as owners we can often pick up on things not being quite right before more obvious symptoms present) and the reality is all you can do is make sure you weigh her daily, step in with syringe feeding if needed and be prepared to go back to the vet if she worsens or shows more specific symptoms.

I hope she is ok

Hi

I am very sorry. At this stage all you can do is observe and wait whether a weight loss and/or clearer symptoms develop.

Your instinct is likely right but it is still very much within the range where there are no clear symptoms or they are depressed by a prey animal like a guinea pig. It can be very frustrating. :(

Thank you both!

It’s nice to have some reassurance, started to feel like I was being over protective of her!

I’ll Keep a close eye on her! And see what direction we go in! Hopefully she will chirp up with some extra tlc x
