I got two little boys (Tubes and Rocket) in February both fantastic little guys although Rocket the more social with Tubes hiding at any sound:)....

Unfortunately on Monday Rocket our baby died. He was tiny in general but in good health, eating and pooping regularly however i took them both to the vet for a check up and to get their nails trimmed (both hated being held). After the visit (vet was awful she couldn't hold Rocket and he got so scared) he became withdrawn but did start to pick up. However on Sunday he became really ill so we took him to the emergency vet and got a remedy but he got the all clear..... That night (Sunday) he began having mini seizures it was terrifying to watch and the next day at the vets they had to put him to sleep. Since we have all be gutted especially his brother Tubes....

Since Monday the little guy has done a great job holding it togeather - yes not eating much but still something.... However yesterday i took him to the vet because he was tilting his head to the left and i recognised it because i do the same when i have sore ears - sure enough he has a little infection and wax build up so is not on drops and goes back to vets on Friday to make sure its all going well... However what i have noticed is that since Monday Tubes has not really gone near his water bottle at all - i have been feeding him water through a syringe and also giving him vit c and probiotic soaked cucumber and carrot but he is definately pooping (all glossy and shiny not soft at all and he has a couple of time eat his own) and eating well enough (better than i could imagine) ... so how do i get him to drink from the water bottle? He did it on Monday night and a little on Tuesday but hasn't since then...is there something else i can do? His energy is getting better due to being treated but i just need to make sure his water intake is enough....can anyone give me some advice.....?

Thanks,

Jules, Neil & Tubes xx

Firstly I'm sorry to hear you lost your piggy :0

Some guineas will drink lots from a bottle some guineas don't. There should be sufficient water content in the vegetables to not warrant too much water drinking from the bottle.
The 2 I have at the moment very rarely drink water. Its normally at the end of the week that I notice a bit of water is missing from the bottle. And that's because I am normally more busy at the end if the week than the start so they get their veggies in the evening rather than the morning so they have to eat their dry food more through the day .
Just ensure the water is fresh each day and the bottle within easy reach.

I'm Sure others will be along shortly to point out the bits I missed :)

Thank you so much for your reply! You have no idea how much i appreciate it! I just caught him cruising around his little house so hopefully he will drink - and find all the goodies i have hidden (Cucumber, Tomato (he loves it) and Carrot as well as some apple branches and loads of fresh hay.... I made him a carrot and basil hang yesterday and he had some fun trying to eat it :)....

I feel so much better knowing that the veggies will give him water because i feel as if I'm constantly disturbing him trying to get him to drink......x
