Hi All

I have decided that I would like an Alpaca (sow) to join my little herd!

I saw some pictures of a litter today whilst browsing the web and they are absolutely adorable. Now all I have to do is wait for one to become available at a local rescue centre. As I write this I feel so mean, I am not wishing for a piggie to be unloved and in need of being rescued but there is just no good way to phrase it.

I will hopefully be adopting a rescue piggie shortly, so the Alpaca would be my second adoption :) bringing my total to 4 little piggiewinks :))

Oooh I also have to share....I in the process of building a 7ft by 2ft cage and the grids are here. And I was very lucky to find a local sign maker who can sell me a piece of correx (8ft by 4ft) for £14, bargain!

Will post pics of the cage, when made, and my growing family :)

Oh don't worry i constantly hope a local abyssinian will be in need of my home and love haha :x

Ohh can't wait to see pictures of your new cage :D !

Oohh Alpacas are my favourites! Snowball in my pic was an Alpaca, he had bundles of personality, very docile and loving. He was like a lamb. (r.i.p). I'm sure you'll give one a loving home:)

I was the same as you - always looking for long-haired piggies to come up in rescue.

I actually put an ad up on Preloved stating I wanted to adopt a lonely sow who needed a new home, expecting nothing to come of it. A breeder contacted me and said that my home sounded really wonderful and she had some retired breeding sows that I could choose from. I'm not a fan of breeders at all and was nervous about going and seeing it all, but to be fair to the lady she definitely wasn't in it for the money - she waived the fee as she saw how well my piggies are looked after!

I came home with Treacle, now renamed Maisie. She has settled into my herd wonderfully after living on her own for 2 years, and is so happy :)

There was a local alpaca in my local garden centre. I watched him for a few months as no one wanted him. I'd see all the smooth coated or occasionally crested/abys come and go but no one wanted him. He was brown with red eyes and I felt so bad watching him.

One day about 5months in I saw he had finally been reserved by someone. I was delighted the poor thing was finally going to get a home.

Hi Perfect Piggies, windwhistle warren might be one of your nearest rescues and have lots of piggies waiting for homes, have you had a look there?

Poor Amber had a coat like that. The only thing you could do to keep her comfortable was to trim it as short as possible - it was too hot, got dirty really easily and was almost impossible to comb out without snagging it. The breeders don't think of the piggie when the create these fancy varieties.

Even mid length hair becomes a problem with the old ladies who are a bit inclined to sit in a puddle. I'd not had a truly short haired piggie for years when I got Marmaduke and I'd forgotten that they don't need any combing or cleaning at all. So much better for him.
