We are thinking about getting a kitten soon and was wondering if anyone had any experince of piggies and kittens together? Will the kitten try to hurt my piggies? or try to get into the cage?
I have a cat but she isn't really bothered about the piggies and she's old so can't be bothered to try to get to them but kittens might be different?

We have had new cats and a kitten during the time we have had our pigs and Angus (the kitten) was very curious at first and keen to get in to play with them but a secure cage kept him out. Eventually he got used to them and stopped bothering as much. Mind you he has been known to lie in front of the cage for hours just watching them!

With my kittens they are still too young to want to hurt the pigs. Hopefully you can get them used to them as they grow up and they won't want to hurt them, but when they're older then they might. Then you'd just have to keep them apart or be very careful with them around each other :)

My cat sits in front of the cage and just stares at them, she's too lazy to actually try to get to them! Its good to know that the kitten should get used to them.

I've had lots of new cats and kittens over the years and have guineas. I have always found that the interest of the guineas is very short lived once they know they can't get to them. It is usually easier introducing as kittens as well as they are just part of the family then.

Good luck

It would depend on the kittens. If their parents were 'good mousers' they may be rather too interested.

I think really it depends on the cat itself but i also think having the kitten from a young age and it growing up with my piggies would help.
Anyway I'm just considering it at the moment its not anywhere near a definite.

I've had my two tabby cats since they were 7 weeks old, they are now over 2 years old, so they have been around piggies all their lives and are fine with them. They were curious as kittens but are not bothered at all by them any more.

My cat was terrified of the guineas, after falling in to the cage at 10 weeks.. he hasn't been near them since :))

Typical of cats really...our old cat was petrified of them and if they were out in the run he would dart back into the house through the cat flap. He was scared of ants too though
