Piggies and Paint

My husband....bless him....decided to fall through the loft floor when he was getting the Christmas decorations down.mallethead He dislocated his shoulder and left a hole in the ceiling above the landing.mallethead He is fine now so we can laugh about it rolleyes :)) Anyway when he was levering himself back into the loft he scraped the wallpaper on the wall. The insurance company have decided that not only can my ceiling be fixed but my wallpaper can be redone as well. Yeah! As the wallpaper goes from the landing, down the stairs and in the hall, they are paying for the whole thing to be done. After all that my question is will the paint affect my precious piggies. The piggies are in one of the bedrooms and the woodwork and doors will be painted up there. I could bring them downstairs as the doors downstairs are varnished wood so the doors are fine and are not being painted. Although obviously the skirting boards and door surrounds will be being glossed downstairs. Will my boys be okay....I wouldn't want anything to happen to them. ?/
 
Hmm a difficult one, I would try and go with the paints that are designed for asthmatics if you can which have lower solvent levels. Alternatively could they go visit a friend for a few days whilst the house is being redone and then you can air the house to remove any fumes?
 
It's a bit early to be getting your Christmas decs out isn't it? lol.

I have found that even the low odour paint can be quite smelly. Can you move your pigs away as far as possible to another room with closed door and open window?
 
Use water based paints- MUCH less smelly than oil-based products. But even more preferable is to keep the piggies well away from the sources of paint odour. Farrow & Ball water-based have fairly low odour in my experience but as other poster says - all paints are "smelly" to some extent. Good thing about water-based product is that they "go off" quickly. Meaning as they dry quickly the smell disappear fairly quickly too. The oil (solvent) based products that have been designed to meet new EU regs for this year have a FAR longer drying time than those available in 2009. Have tried a few brands and they are all inferior to their predecessors in this respect. 2 days to dry!

Keep the piggies as much away from any fresh paint as possible, whatever product you're using.
 
Just keep the piggies away, let them go on holiday to a neighbours or friends for a few days:)
