Hi all

I am currently on school holidays for the summer and have noticed my guinea pigs behaving differently. I am not sure if it's because I've not been at home all day before and never noticed but they weren't like this at the weekends before I'm sure.

Recently my pigs don't seems to want to do anything in the daytime. I have their indoor cage open all day for them to come and go as they please in the kitchen but all they want to do is lie down. It's been the same story in the garden where they just want to sleep in their outdoor cage rather than go on the grass. If it was a person I would say they were depressed, but I have no idea what has changed or caused this. They are not fighting or anything and are still eating and drinking their usual amount.

Any ideas?

My free roaming piggies are most active in the morning and the late afternoon/evening, but tend to sleep through most of the middle of the day, with just the occasional browse of hay. What you are experiencing is very normal behaviour. Piggies follow very much an eat-sleep it off rhythm.

All my piggies have done today is sleep or just lay there lookig all sorry for themselves.
It could just be that they are to hot and bothered to move.

I put my 2 in their outdoor hutch for a few hours today and they seemed ok but had to bring them in as the sun was about to get on the hutch.

Haha, I feel much better now! I bet my piggies are wondering why it's suddnely so hot, I know I am!

I guess I'm noticing more as I'm at home all day watching them rather than coming home to them squeaking at me for attention and food.
